Synopsis:Sung-Joon, Duk-Gil and Mi-Ok may have lived in the past, but their ideas were ahead of their time. Sung-Joon, a born aristocrat, was friends with his house servants Mi-Ok and Duk-Gil. Sung-Joon was in love with Mi-Ok. Although he relentlessly fought against the antiquated idea of slavery to protect his love, his father forced him into an arranged marriage as a punishment for his insubordination. Mi-Ok had no choice but to let the love of
her life marry another woman. Meanwhile, Duk-Gil is bereft of all hope after realizing Mi-Ok’s adamant love towards Sung-Joon. Duk-Gil considers himself as a slave not only of aristocrats but also of Japan. Duk-Gil failed to obtain freedom for love was his definition of freedom. Love cannot be forced nor be chosen. Duk-Gil’s flame starts to wane. Let’s ask ourselves, what is the true meaning of complete freedom and love?
