(一)The International Jury of Tiantan Award
President of the International Jury:
Nikita Mikhalkov
Nikita Mikhalkov is a famous Russian director, directed a number of world-renowned films such as A Slave of Love, A Few Days in the Life of I.I. Oblomov, Dark Eyes, Territory of Love, Burnt by the Sun and 12 Angry Men. Among them, 12 Angry Men won the Special Golden Lion at 2007 Venice International Film Festival. Burnt by the Sun won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1995, the Grand Prize at the 1994 Cannes International Film Festival and Russian National Award (1995). Thanks to extensive humanistic care shown in his films, he was awarded the Akira Kurosawa Award for Lifetime Achievement in Film Directing at 2008 Tokyo International Film Festival.
Members of the International Jury of Tiantan Award:
Zhang Yibai
A well-known Chinese director and producer. Zhang Yibai’s directorial works include Lost Indulgence, Curiosity Killed the Cat, The Longest Night in Shanghai and Spring Subway. Works that he has produced include Go Lala Go! and more. His movie works have received frequent recognition at both domestic and international film festivals. Spring Subway (2002) won the Best Feature Film at the Beijing College Student Film Festival and …About Love (2005) won Best Co-production at the Ornamental Column Awards. Curiosity Killed the Cat (2006) was nominated by Golden Horse Awards for Best Actress. Eternal Moment (2011) stirred up a wave of nostalgia among the Chinese people of the time and became one of the country’s hot topics.
Ivor Benjamin
A famous British filmmaker, currently serves as Chairman and Director of the Association of British Film Directors, and concurrently serves as the Chairman of Shareholding Director Commission. Benjamin has been committed to developing the Association to be a cross-media training and event organization, leading the Association to promote the starting of the London Image International Chinese Film Festival, and served as the Chairman of British Judges in two Film Festivals of 2011 and 2012. Ivor Benjamin, who serves as the director and screenwriter, actively promotes live broadcast and live performing arts.
Je-gyu Kang
Being one of South Korea’s most well-known directors and producers, he has been hailed as Asia’s most notable film genius. His main works include Gingko Bed, Shiri and Taegukgi: The Brotherhood of War, making box office miracles again and again. Shiri hit the highest box-office record, leading South Koran film industry to rejuvenation. In 1999, it took home the Special Jury Award at the 1999 Asia-Pacific Film Festival. In 2005, Taegukgi: The Brotherhood of War won Best Director and Best Feature Film Awards at the Asia-Pacific Film Festival. Je-gyu Kang was rated as “Man of the Year” by two mainstream media and the “Stars of Asia (50 Asian leaders at the forefront of change)” by American Business Week.
Gu Changwei
Gu Changwei is a well-known Chinese cinematographer and director. His cinematographic works include King of the Children (1987), Red Sorghum (1987), Farewell My Concubine (1993) and In the Heat of the Sun (1995). Among these, King of the Children and Red Sorghum won Golden Rooster Awards for Best Picture in 1988. Farewell My Concubine received a nomination for Best Cinematography at the 1993 Academy Awards. His directorial works include Peacock (2005), And the Spring Comes (2007) and Love for Life (2011). Peacock took home a Silver Bear at the 2005 Berlin International Film Festival, while And the Spring Comes won the Rome International Film Festival Award for Best Actress.
Geoff Brown
Geoff Brown is a famous Australian film producer. In 1994, he joined the Screen Producers Association of Australia and began serving as the association’s business manager. From 2002 to his retirement in late 2012, he acted as the SPAA’s executive director. He still continues to sit on the boards of the SPAA and the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts. Geoff Brown currently sits on the Executive Committee of the International Federation of Film Producers Associations as well as being the co-chair of its Asia-Pacific Policy Committee. He is an image ambassador for Australia’s Special Broadcasting Service.
Cameron Bailey
Cameron Bailey is the artistic director of the Toronto International Film Festival. He is also responsible for maintaining relationships between the Canadian and international film industries. He has planned out and hosted the Toronto International Film Festival’s extremely successful “Reel Talk” series on Chinese language films. He also acts as a movie critic in leading international movie critic programs and magazines. As an art director of Toronto International Film Festival, he is a recipient of a Queen Elizabeth II Commemorative Medal, and has been granted an honorary degree by Humber College. He was once named as one of Toronto’s 50 most influential people by Toronto Life Magazine.
