The 1st Beijing International Film Festival
The 3rd Beijing International Film Festival Film Market (Business Negotiation Meeting originally) is grandly held at National Convention Center during April 20 -22, 2013. Under the theme of Exhibition, Promotion, Trade and Communication, the 3rd Beijing International Film Festival Film Market focuses on seven themes, which are Exhibition, Project Pitches and Negotiation Meetings, Industry Project Road Shows and New Film Conference, Signing Ceremonies, Market Screenings, Conversations and Industry Salons. Various professional activities are held, thus making Beijing Film Market a comprehensive and high-end platform for international communication and transaction.
In this year’s Film Market, 27 projects are signed with a total contract value of over 8.731 billion yuan (increased by 28.57% and 65.58% over the previous year respectively), making a new transaction record in all the Chinese film festivals. Among them, film signed contract value reaches RMB 3.108 billion with an increase of 28.38% over the previous year; the contract value of cinemas, film and television bases and construction of culture and real estate projects amounts to about RMB 3 billion, with an increase of 53.85% over the previous year; the signing of investment projects in film, microfilm projects, technological and other projects totals RMB 2.623 billion yuan.

1. Man of Tai Chi

Profile of Project
Chen Linhu (Tiger Chen) is just an ordinary deliveryman and a disciple of Free Soul Taichi. A mysterious individual (Keanu Reeves) discovers his incredible fighting ability, and invites him to fight in an underground tournament. A police chief from Hong Kong (Karen Mok) discovers this underground fighting ring and goes after the man in charge. But the deeper she goes, the harder black and white is to distinguish. In the final fight between good and evil, love and truth will reveal themselves in spectacular ways.
2. Base FX and Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) MOU on China Business Development Cooperation

Profile of Project:
Since the strategic alliance forged between Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) and Base FX in May, 2012, the two parties have worked together to achieve great results in the visual effects and film industry. Under ILM's supervision, the Base FX production team in Beijing has successfully completed visual effects for projects such as Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, Identity Thief and Pacific Rim. In celebration of the one-year anniversary of the alliance, ILM and Base FX will sign a Memorandum of Understanding on China Business Development Cooperation at Beijing Film Market of Beijing International Film Festival to further foster their alliance in China. Over the next 3 years, ILM and Base FX will continue to expand their VFX production work in China.
3. Imperial City - Beijing

Profile of Project:
Imperial City-Beijing is a large 3D documentary epic based on the 800-year history of Beijing’s Imperial City. The project is jointly supported by the Beijing Municipal Propaganda Department, the Municipal Government of Beijing, the Ministry of Culture, the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, the China National Tourism Administration and the State Administration of Cultural Heritage. Led by the Cameron Pace Group (China) and documentary master Jacques Perrin, the film will also bring together distributors CCTV, IMAX, Discovery, the French National Television, and Korea’s CJ Corporation.
4. Call For Love

Profile of Project:
Xu Lang is facing not only bankruptcy but also the divorce paper. For him, life had become meaningless, while only a freefall from the top of a building can be of any console. During the freefall which he thought would be the last thing he’d ever do, an angel miraculously appears and stopped Xu from hitting the ground. Furious at the nosey angel, he tells him of the pressure being a male member of society. The angle wagers a bet with Xu: if he is able to find a woman who is willing to pay for him and is truly in love with him, he will soon regain everything he once lost.
Xu begins his ridiculous search. He had encountered a second-generation rich woman who has had their hearts shattered by Casanovas, a highly self-esteemed female CEO, a middle-aged woman with an infatuation of plastic surgery…The nosey angle of course would try everything to give Xu a hard time to prevent him from winning the bet. In order to win, Xu keeps going.
After much chaos and ridicule, Xu finds his true love - the mysterious Ms. Chu Yun, an entrepreneur of a clothing factory. Just as Xu was getting so close to achieving his goal, an investment gone bad had left Ms. Chu Yun in ruins, and so, she too became bankrupt overnight.
Left with no choice, Xu goes back to square one and tries to look for other women to support him, but is unable to get Chu out of his mind. The angel told Xu, him choosing to be with Chu Yun would mean losing the bet. Faced with a difficult decision, Xu went with his heart and decided to be with Ms. Chu Yun, he found her at the top of the building he once stood at, and stopped her from leaping off. He believed that with their bare and capable hands, they are in control of their future and destiny.

When a joint exhibition of the famous Yuan Dynasty scroll Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains attracts the attention of nefarious art enthusiasts on the international black market, both yakuza and English thugs scramble to steal it. Xiao Jinhan (Andy Lau), a Hong Kong Anti-Smuggling Department agent with a tainted past, is assigned to the mission entitled "Operation Switch." He is determined to protect the scroll and clear his name. Meanwhile, PICC agent Lin Yuyan (Zhang Jingchu) is also entrusted with protecting the masterpiece, but things soon get more personal than she bargained for. Sent by the yakuza to seduce Xiao Jinhan, the mysterious vixen Lisa (Chiling Lin) is every man’s dream: a Carmen and a chameleon; but deep down inside she is empty and lonely. 6. Mr. GO: Huayi Brothers Media Corporation

Team #7, adapted from Xu Yingwan’s famous manga story, follows a bat-swinging gorilla named Ling Ling and her trainer Wei Wei as they pass the days in a circus in the outskirts of China. After her grandfather passes away suddenly, the circus finds itself deep in debt. At the advice of Korean sports agent Sung, Wei Wei brings Ling Ling to the Korean Baseball League. Under the hardworking of three of them, they win the games and get closer with each other. The humane Ling Ling endures the pain brought by knee injury not to make Wei Wei worry. However, Ling Ling is sick before to compete with the Thunderclap. Finally, Ling Ling returns to the court for Wei Wei.
7. The Wrath of Vajra

The Master knows Vajra is the one, and passes on to him the secret 17 Deadly Strokes in a fight for the nation.
Against the greatest odds, flying in the face of fear and unafraid of death, Vajra rushes into enemy territory to battle the world’s fiercest warriors in a race to save the kidnapped children of China. The legend of Vajra begins.
8. PK Rich Pretty

Adding insult to injury, in her blind race for success, her neglected husband Noah responds by having an affair. Shuixian wants divorce, but not before she gets her revenge. She devises a plan to marry the girl’s father, in turn becoming the girl’s stepmother and Noah’s mother-in-law…
9. Loulan

The sword is lost to the winds of time, and the Tang Clan is gone forever or so it seems. Somewhere within the cave of the Purple Fox Demon, the sound of Zhenyu’s torment is heard. Dawei is a middle-aged fraud who deals in magic tricks and cheating women. Returning home one day after a failed attempt, Dawei finds a little girl standing there in his home. Her name is Diu Diu, and she claims to be Dawei’s long-lost daughter. He isn’t having any of it, and ends up tearing in half the only photo of him and her mother.
The next day, Dawei’s partner Li shows up with a new gig: Stage a “Poseidon Adventure” show at the Goddess of Mercy Park. The plan is to get the deposit and ditch. The second day, Dawei finds out that he’s the one who’s been cheated, since Li is long gone with the deposit and already halfway to Dubai. Not letting Dawei get away with the cheat, it costs him to the police station.
Once out of the police station, Diu Diu and Dawei attempt to put his life back together. No more flips and tricks to get through life. Diu Diu wants to show Dawei what real magic is. As they walk together, they learn new things about each other, and rediscovers what it means to be father and daughter. Dawei finds the inspiration to put on a real magic show.
After that, Dawei at his lowest ebb is inspired by Diu Diu and determines to become a good father and have a perfect performance for Diu Diu. However, a dangerous escape magic is about to begin…
13. The Lady Pirate

A Chinese female pirate: Mrs Dragon.
The word Pirate may remind you of a man who robs and kills. However, in the late Qing dynasty, a female pirate from Guangdong Province, makes the fine governmental troops lose their guts. Followed by the outbreak of the Opium War, she is offered amnesty by the Qing government and awarded to be Mrs. Gaoming (imperial mandate).
This iron lady once worked as a counselor for Lin Zexu in resisting British troops. By the surname of Shi, she was nicknamed Xianggu as a young girl, but respected as Mrs. Dragon by pirates from all places. Being well equipped, the Red Flag gang led by Mrs. Dragon beat the governmental troops a dozen times and even hit hard on the Portuguese Macao naval force (with US lansquenets). Mrs. Dragon even gave a good beating to the British ships in Guangzhou in 1809, captured a British battleship and killed a dozen British soldiers, which shocked the British troops immensely. Rich British merchant Grasper, who was once kidnapped by the Red Flag, witnessed the everyday life of Mrs. Dragon and the rest of the gang. Having been redeemed with 7654 Spanish silver dollars and returned to London, he wrote a unique memoir and made the story of Mrs. Dragon known to the world.
14. China-South Korea Co-produced Romantic Comedy Love on Valentine's Day

This is a romantic comedy between a Beijing rich boy and a rich girl in Seoul, a love story between Beijing and Seoul.
Taozi, a Korean university student is unhappy about the approach of Valentine's Day. This lovelorn girl is suffering from the previous relationship with Lu Hai--a group peer and even has no courage to find a new love.
Lu Ting, Taozi’s best friend, has a boyfriend by the name of Deng He who is a bit nerdy. Before Valentine’s Day, Ting decided to hire a cute “boyfriend” from local convenience and service centre. Ting suggested to Taozi that she should hire a tall and handsome acting boyfriend and show him off in front of Lu Hai to have her revenge.
Li Bing, born in Beijing, came alone to Seoul after a fight with his parents. He barely survives by various part-time jobs. One day he hit a limo by accident and is asked to pay a huge sum of compensation. At the very moment, he received a call from Wang Jing, an old pal who is now working in the convenience and service centre. He told Li, “You are good looking, if you meet a rich woman, you may make a fortune!”

A woman wakes up in the dark crawlspace of suburban house, unable to recall how she gets trapped there or who she is. She soon finds out that in the house above lives a killer/torturer that is probably responsible for her live burial. Witnessing a new crime unfolding overhead, she is doing all she can to escape and may even save a suffering victim.
At the same time, Josh, an ambitious young detective, deeply troubled in his career and marriage, accidentally picks up her SOS signal and comes to her rescue. He is not motivated merely by his occupational zest.
17. Story of Qiang
Profile of Project:
Xiao Qiang, a grassroot worker from urban China with a “rags-to-riches” dream, comes to a big city, only to be swirled into and carried away by the hectic flow of the city, inspiring amusing incidents one after another. With a light comedy touch, the film tells how a nobody works his way up while offering a panorama of contemporary China.
18. Detective Su Dongpo
Profile of Project:
Factional strife in the Northern Song Dynasty leads to a turbulent life of the statesman Su Dongpo who is exiled many times to places like Huangzhou, Mizhou and Huzhou, where he served as a local government official and leaves behind many legendary stories. Bearing in mind the interests of ordinary people, representing their viewpoints and pondering over the fate of the country, Su deftly incorporates his political strategies and thinking of a literary giant in adjudicating cases.

Apart from production, we widely gather outside strengths and display excellent programs to audiences relying on platform resource and assistance to authors.

This year, Youku Original presents brand film version of Master Short Films, Film Miss Puff, Hip Hop Short Film Series, and a total of 52 short films in these categories: Young Directors Workshop, and Short Films by Major Directors.
21. Shanghai Expo Poly International Cinema

Profile of Project:
Poly Film Investment Co., Ltd., with the philosophy of integrating high production value pictures with first-class exhibition, focuses on the business areas of cinema design, construction, investment, and management. As of March 2013, the Poly family has established 65 theaters, over 300 screens, over 46,000 seats. By the end of the year, Poly’s Beijing branch will launch 10 projects with investment totaling 300 million RMB.
22. Inner Mongolia Zhenglanqi Television Base
Partners: Beijing Huaying Century National Film and Television Production Center /Inner Mongolia Zhenglanqi People's Government
Profile of Project:
Beijing Huaying Century National Film and Television Production Center in partnership with the Inner Mongolia Zhenglanqi People’s Government is hereby announcing the development of the Zhenglanqi Motion Picture Studio. The aims of the studio are to aid in the registration of Yuan capital’s historic relics, rebuild the city’s architectural and cultural landmarks, create the Yuan Capital Film Base and turn the city into an important filming location. Excavating the city’s cultural resources will stimulate film production, film investment and tourism in the region.
23. Heart of Darkness

APOCALYPSE 2388. Earth is on the brink of extinction. Legendary explorer KURTZ is sent on a desperate mission to scout an unknown planet on the far side of the universe. A planet that may sustain human life.
Marlow is promoted due to distinctive performance in a fight with universe pirates. Heroic Kurtz was sent to find new planet several years ago, but lost contact with the headquarters. Marlow is assigned to save Kurtz with his fleet from Copernicus moon prison.
After several weeks of search, Marlow team fail to find anything but meet an unknown black hole. Someone in the team is reluctant to continue searching and attempts to return. Under the strong support of supporters, Marlow finally finds the wrecked vessel. However, this vessel is not Kurtz’s one. Many aliens are waiting for them. Even worse, they meet storm and fall down to an unknown beach in the escape. More brutal aboriginals, alien army and out-of-recognized Kurtz are waiting for them. Marlow faces a more severe life threat and moral test.
24. Dreams Come True with Korea! -Korean VFX Companies Showcase in Beijing Film Market 2013

Many Korean post-production companies are participating in this year’s Beijing Film Market, where they will be sharing their experience and expertise in post-production to more companies and increase cooperation.
