5th Beijing International Film Festival Press Conference

　　The 5th Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF) Press Conference was held in the Press Conference Room on the 9th floor of the Information Office of the People's Government of Beijing Municipality on March 19, 2015. The conference was attended by Luan Guozhi, Director of Beijing Municipal Bureau of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television (Beijing Municipal Bureau of Copyright) and Vice Chairman and Secretary of Organizing Committee of BJIFF, Zhao Zhiyong,Associate Inspector of Beijing Municipal Bureau of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television and the Executive Deputy Secretary of Organizing Committee of BJIFF, Zhang Xiaoguang, Deputy Curator of China Film Archive and Deputy Secretary of Organizing Committee of BJIFF, Hu Dong,Member of Beijing Huairou District Committee of the Communist Party of China, Directorof the Publicity Department, and Deputy Secretary of Organizing Committee of BJIFF, and Huang Pei,Head of Beijing International Film& Television Exchange Center and Deputy Head of the Office of Organizing Committee of BJIFF, and chaired by Xu Hejian, Deputy Head of Information Office of the People's Government of Beijing Municipality.

　　At the conference, the list of members of the international jury of Tiantan Award was released. Besides, the conference briefed the audience on the preparation for and highlights of the 5thBJIFF, as well as the progress of Beijing Film Panorama and general information about Film Carnival. Moreover, it unveiled the official poster for the5th BJIFFl.

　　Jury of Tiantan Award was Unveiled, Consisting of A-list Filmmakers.

　　The list of members of the international jury of Tiantan Award in the 5thBJIFF has been confirmed. The famous French director Luc Besson will act as the Chairman of the international jury which consists another 6 members: the renowned Russian actor, director and producer - Fedor Bondarchuk, the famous director and producer - Peter Ho-sun Chan from Hong Kong, China, the celebrated American screenwriter and filmmaker - Robert Mark Kamen, the famous South Korean director and screenwriter - Kim Ki-duk, the famous Brazilian film producer, director, and screenwriter - Fernando Meirelles, and the famous Chines Actress - Zhou Xun.

　　Fedor Bondarchuk is a Russian actor, director and producer. Fedor participates in more than 60 films and televisions, including V dvizhenii, Our Own, The 9th Company,The State Counsellor, etc. He is thefounder of Art Pictures Studio production company and Film Bureau group company, and Chairman of BOD of Leningrad Film Studio awarded Order of Lenin. In 2012, the first film produced in IMAX 3D format in Russia's history directed by Fedor Bondarchuk, Stalingrad was submitted for competition on Academy Award on Russia's behalf again.

　　Peter Chan is one of the top ten directors in Hong Kong. The film Comrades: Almost a Love Story released in 1996 won 9 awards on Hong Kong Film Awards in the same year. He filmed his first Hollywood movie The Love Letter for Dream Works in 1998. In 2004, the film Three: Going Home directed by him was selected as the opening film for the Out-of-Competition Section in Berlin International Film Festival. He marched into the Chinese mainland market in 2005. In 2013, the box office receipts for his film American Dreams in China hit about RMB 550 million. In 2014, the box office receipts for his film Dearest in mainland China exceeded RMB 300 million. With his foresight and sensibility in film industry, Peter Chan is always one step ahead of his counterparts, which wins him the honor of "Most Valuable Filmmaker" in Hong Kong.

　　Robert Mark Kamen has participated in the production of many major films as an American screenwriter and filmmaker. He has maintained a close relationship with China since long before. Thanks to The Karate Kid he participated in production, Chinese movie star Jackie Chan took a firm step in Hollywood. Other two films made by him, namely, The Transporter and Taken film series are also popular among film fans. These films, with their exciting plots, has enormously attracted the attention of film fans across the world and established themselves as classic films in the heart of the audience. The films he participated in production from 1992 include Lethal Weapon 3, Kiss of the Dragon and The Fifth Element.

　　Ki-duk Kimis a famous South Korean director and screenwriter who was once awarded two Best Scenario Award by the Korean Film Council with the screenplays of Double Exposure and Jaywalking. In 1996, Kim made his debut as a director with a movie titled Crocodile and his The Isle was nominated for the Venice InternationalFilm Festival in the same year. He won the Silver Lion (Best Director) for 3-Iron in the BerlinInternational Film Festival in September 2004, the Golden Lion for Pietà in the 69th Venice Film Festival in 2012 and the Best Film Award for One On One in the 71th Venice International Film Festival in 2014. In 2013, his Moebius was also nominated for an award in the Venice International Film Festival.

　　Fernando Ferreira Meirelles is a famous Brazilian film producer, director and screenwriter. In 2002, his best known film City of God garnered a variety of awards in major film exhibitions and festivals held in Western countries, including 52 international awards. This film was also nominated for four the 76thAcademy Awards, including the Best Feature Film and the Best Director. In 2004, The Constant Gardener, a film independently directed by Fernando in the United Kingdom received the Golden Globe Award and was nominated for the BAFTA Award for Best Direction and the BAFTA Award for Best Film. He also directed the 2008 adaptation of the novel Blindness, which won him nominations for many major awards including the Golden Palm in Cannes International Film Festival.

　　Xun ZHOU is a famous Chinese actress who starred in many famous films such as Suzhou River, Perhaps Love,The Equation of Love and Death, Painted Skin, and The Message. She has won a dozen of awards for "Best Actress" at film festivals including Festival du Film de Paris, Asian Film Awards, Chinese Film Media Awards and the Hundred Flowers Awards, and one award for Best Supporting Actress. She is the first actress who garnered "Best Actress" at three top awards for Chinese films, namely, the Golden Horse Awards, Hong Kong Film Awards and Golden Rooster Awards. Xun ZHOU was once ranked by CNN as the Top 25 Asian Actors, and she was the youngest Chinese actress to gain the honor.

　　The seven members of the international jury led by Luc Besson came from France, Russia, the United States, South Korea, Brazil and China respectively. All of them represent the top level of a professional field in the film industry at their respective countries and have significant international influence. This influential jury lineup will greatly enhance the authority and professionalism of the results of Tiantan Award in the 5th BJIFF, highlight the global perspective of Tiantan Award in the film circle and show the world the international view of BJIFF. Here, excellent Chines films will work with films from all about the world to make a grand festival, realizing the harmonious co-existence of the world's film arts and their prosperous development. We believe that this session of BJIFF will definitely attract wide attention.

　　Magnificent Presenting Seven Major Events, Ambitiously Creating an International Brand of Film Culture

　　Launched in 2011 for the first time, Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF) started with high-end activities, resolved difficulties and improved itself, and gradually reached international standards, continuously developing in internationalization, brand influence, and scale of activities. Over 4 years, it has adhered to the tenet of "Share the Screen, Shape the Future" and regarded "Beauty in Variety, Harmony in Diversity" as the core value of Tiantan Award. While developing, improving, and strengthening the unique festival orientation on "3M" (Master, Mass, Market) and establishing corresponding organization style, BJIFF is steadily working towards its goal of "developing into the best film festival in Asia and ranking among top three film festivals in the world". It is exerting increasingly great influence in promoting rapid and healthy development of China's film industry, bringing prosperity to film culture of the world.

　　The 5th BJIFF will be held between April 16, 2015 and April 23, 2015. The Organizing Committee has thoroughly studied the speech delivered by Xi Jinping, General Secretary of CPC, in a symposium on literature and art and follows Mr. Xi's instructions therein, and fulfills requirements raised by the National Symposium on Film Industry. Sticking to the right orientation and enhancing cultural confidence, it assumes social responsibilities and persistently seeks for better quality and spectacular products. Adhering to the principles of "safety, economization, quality, and civilization", integrating such elements as support by the government, operation in the market, orientation on filmmakers, and public participation, and establishing an all-around and multi-layered organization pattern that covers various fields, it focuses on enriching spiritual meaning, setting values, and enhancing cultural foundation, and strives for innovation and better development of BJIFF.

　　The 5th BJIFF features such seven major events as appraisal of Tiantan Award, ofthe Competition Section, Opening Ceremony, Beijing Film Panorama, Theme Forum, Film Market, Film Carnival, and Closing & Awards Ceremony. The Opening Ceremony as well as Closing Ceremony of the film festival will be held in Huairou International Convention & Exhibition Center Yanqi Lake Beijing on April 16 and April 23 respectively. During the festival, more than 360 great films will be showed at the Beijing Film Panorama in over 30 film agencies and colleges in Beijing. Three theme forums includingSino-Foreign Film Co-production Forum, International Film Group Summit Forum, and Summit on the Beauty of Film will be held in Beijing Hotel and China National Film Museum on April 17, 18 and 22 respectively. The Film Market will be held at the China Millennium Monument from April 17 to 20. In addition, the Film Carnival is going to stun participants in more than 20 cinemas downtown Beijing and around the Yanqi Lake area, Huairou District. Apart from such seven major events, the film festival is going to greet people with over 100 well organized events including New Focus, "Forward Future" Unit, Documentary Sector, Classical Peking Opera Film Section, Film Musical Concert,Red Carpet for Premiered International Films, Meeting Producers, New Film Release Conference, and Press Conference.

　　Five Breakthroughs Promote Innovation with Rich Content

　　Firstly, a new breakthrough was achieved in the participation of famous guests. Chaired by Luc Besson, the jury of Tiantan Award consisted of world-renowned directors, screenwriters, actors and actresses. The number of world-renowned film festivals whose chairmen and directors attended various activities of the 5th Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF) is fifteen, which is one-third more than that of the 4th BJIFF. Famous guests such as Jean-Jacques Annaud and Darren Aronofsky also showed up in the Film Festival. The second breakthrough achieved was on the quantity and quality of films. 930 films in total from 90 countries and regions signed up for the competition for Tiantan Award, among which 122 were Chinese films while 808 films came from other countries. Severalinternational films selected for competition will have their international premieres. The Organizing Committee will also hold grand premiere ceremony for these films. Besides, 21 films receiving awards of international well-known film festivals and the Academy Award were included in the list of films to be shown out of competition. Among the 1,531 films from 103 countries and regions signing up for Beijing Film Panorama, about 200 international films that had not been shown in China was selected to meet the audience, 21 of which were new movies receiving awards of international Category-A film festivals and the Academy Award in the past two years. The third breakthrough was in the cooperation with world famous film institutions.

　　The 5th Beijing International Film Festival – Beijing Film Market “Project Pitches” will continue to work with the Marché du Film - Festival de Cannes in incorporating two additional awards to its existing "Project Pitches" section. The award-winning projects will have direct access to The New Chinese Film Talents Fund Forum which is to be held during the Marché Du Film - Festival de Cannes 2015.The 5th Beijing Film Market and MPA will further strengthen relationships and cooperation. A new "MPA Grand Prize" created to award the winner of the MPA Film Workshop, which has now has become part of the Beijing Film Market's "Film Project Market". The recipient will join winners from similar competitions at other MPA film workshops for a study tour to Hollywood studios to learn about professional filmmaking. The winner will also get a rare opportunity to pitch their projects to studios for international film co-production. MPA and Beijing Film Market have joined hands to present a variety of activities including the MPA Film Workshop opening forum/panel discussion, MPA Film Workshop, coaching sessions and project pitching aimed to accelerate the development of promising projects from the "Film Project Market". The Film Festival made publicity through all media, which was another breakthrough. Apart from publicity through newspapers, broadcast and television, the 5th BJIFF emphasized on publicity through the Internet and new media and made full use of Official Weibo, WeChat, APP and popular websites, creating the multi-media publicity pattern and further strengthening international communication and influence of the Film Festival. The last breakthrough was made in the market-oriented operation of the Film Festival. After sufficient preparation, BJIFF Co., Ltd. has been officially registered and established and has joined in the film festival undertaking mechanism as the market entity, which marks a big step taken by BJIFF in its market-oriented operation.

　　Eight Highlights Unveil "Master, Mass, Market" Style Characteristics

　　I. Specific activities of the film festival will be carried out in accordance with the important instructions and spirits of Xi Jinping, General Secretary of CPC, on strengthening international cultural exchange. During his visits to India, South Korea, New Zealand and Australia in 2014, Xi gave important instructions on international cultural exchange and cooperation. Thereupon, the Organizing Committee of the Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF) responded positively to his instructions by carefully selecting activities for the festival. Moreover, it has invited the New Zealand Film Commission, Screen Australia (the Australian Federal Government's key funding body for the Australian screen production industry) as well as Indian films and filmmakers to the activities. Specifically, the out-of-competition activity comprises out-of-competition sections for South Korean, Indian and New Zealand films, and the Film Market hosted the Sino- Australia Film Co-production Forum in conjunction with Ausfilm.

　　II. The Opening Ceremony and Closing Ceremony will be held at International Convention & Exhibition Center Yanqi Lake Beijing in Huairou District, the gorgeous grandness of which will highlight the beautiful landscape. As the venue for the APEC China 2014, the International Convention & Exhibition Center Yanqi Lake Beijing has been approved by the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China and the People's Government of Beijing Municipality to be the venue for the Opening Ceremony and Closing Ceremony of the 5th BJIFF. It is also the first time for a large-scale international cultural event to be held at the International Convention & Exhibition Center Yanqi Lake Beijing following the APEC China 2014. The main structure of the center takes the shape of "Han Tang Fei Yan" (meaning a flying swallow with features of the Han and Tang dynasties), the architectural style of which is similar to that of the Temple of Heaven and highly consistent with the core values of the Tiantan Award--"Beauty in Variety, Harmony in Diversity".

　　III. The activities are selected on the basis of the "Master, Mass, Market" orientation, with the style of the film festival being firmly established. A variety of efforts have gone into holding the 5th BJIFF: Works of masters are invited to compete, their classic films will be screened, lectures by the masters will be given and master forums will be held, gathering the masters in order to pay tribute to them while cultivating future ones; by organizing such activities as special events for the grass-root, appreciation of great films, meetings with stars and producers, official release of new films, films coming into college campuses and movie themed activities, the festival aims to attract the public, serve the public and guide the public; based on the theme of "Display, Recommendation, Transaction and Communication",resources from film enterprises, industrial bases and industrial organizations are integrated, domestic and international customer networks are enriched and expanded, supply and demand are further explored, business coordination and planning are strengthened, a large market system is established and market operations are deepened in order to give full play to the functions of a large market and further build a film market brand leading not only Asia but also the world.

　　IV. Setting up multiple special sections to pay tribute to masters and cultivate future masters. The year of 2015 will celebrate the 120th birthday of film industry in the world and the 110th birthday of Chinese film industry. In addition to 10 awards in the Tiantan Award Competition Section, the Film Market, while taking 1 place in Special Awards for Project Pitches and 3 places in "Projects with Greatest Commercial Potential", is going to cooperate with Film Market of the Cannes International Film Festival in adding 2 places of the Cannes International Film Festival "Foundation Award for Chinese New Filmmakers" of which the winning projects will be directly nominated to the "New Chinese Film Talents Fund Forum"; it will also include such activities as project promotion, press conference, and project negotiation. On the other hand, it will also cooperate with the Motion Picture Association of America in holding the "Hollywood Film Master Class" and adding 1 place of the "MPA Award" of which the winners would receive a training sponsored by MPAA. A new section, "Film Critics' Recommendation" will be included in Beijing Film Panorama. Professional film critics at home and abroad will be invited as members of a jury independent from that of the Competition Section of Tiantan Award, who will scout for new excellent talents from and outside of China, and select 5 to 10 outstanding films for panorama as an honor and encouragement to young filmmakers. Besides, International Young Film Maker Workshop will be established, inviting renowned filmmakers to guide the young directors from different countries participating in "Forward Future" Unit to work in projects together. New Focus will continue to make good use of the resources of China Movie Channel, a national professional omnimedia platform of film to release key big data indexes in China film market in the previous year and indicators for comprehensive influence of films based on integrated analysis on big data, and discover, promote and support young talents with potential in Chinese film market.

　　V. Taking measures for people's benefit and convenience and broadening channels for public participation. The list of Beijing Film Panorama films will be released in advance, at intervals and by part, via Official Website, Official Weibo, WeChat account, and online ticketing system to cater public expectation and offer convenience for ordering ticket. There are some new moves in terms of venues. Firstly, the screening arrangement is optimized to highlight different themes. We have selected 7 movie theaters to serve as the key venues of the event, and 5 theaters as the themed cinema, where 3 to 5 halls will be used to play specific genre of movies so that movie-goers for their favorable genre can get together to watch. Secondly, we have made full advantage of the location and professional resources of the China Film Archive to carry out different activities for the grass-root and create an atmosphere in which the general public can share what they love. Thirdly, we will introduce Beijing Film Panorama films into colleges. We have included 8 universities, including Peking University, Tsinghua University, Renmin University and Beihang University, as sub-venues of the Panorama to attract young movie-goers and cultivate college students to become new contribution to box office. Meanwhile, we have opened up event-specific pages and streamed special shows on our Official Website, social networking platforms like Weibo and WeChat, and video sharing sites like Tencent Video, Youku, Tudou, iQiyi and Sohu Video. By doing this we hope to avail ourselves of the emerging media and involve online movie-goers into the event.

　　VI. Film Carnival events will be held in one main venue, three sub-venues and multiple spots to promote the Huairou TV & Film Demo Zone. Film Carnival events will be held in one main venue that are located in Yanqi LakeScenic Area in Huairou District. Sub-venues include Yangsong Film and TV Base, Spring Legend Town and Yancheng Ancient Street, featuring film themed event, special effects experience, themed show and movie merchandise shops. Meanwhile, we will highlight key features of the Panorama and host related Carnival events around the screening venues with the aim to attract most wide public participation, create good festival atmosphere and heighten influence of Huairou TV & Film Demo Zone.

　　VII. The Film Market will be "production-company-oriented" to further expand the exhibition.In light of the production-company-to-production-company model that prevails on globally-renowned film festival markets, the Film Market of the 5th BJIFF will invite targeted production companies and studios at home and abroad to our centralized promotional seminars and shows to facilitate cooperation, co-production and copyright deals. We particularly encourage film and TV production companies based in Beijing to partake in the show, and the exhibitors this year have increased by over 10% compared to the last year. We attach great importance to the utilization of global resources, so we have invited more exhibitors with international fame that come from more countries and regions than ever to maintain a 50% proportion of international exhibitors.

　　VIII. Improvement in organization and operation to promote the integration of government and social efforts in hosting the festival. Based on the characteristics of a film festival in a metropolis, the 5th BJIFF makes full use of the film resources in the capital and highlight the pattern similar to that of the national team in hosting a festival. For instance, national film institutions such as China Film Group Corporation, China Film Archive, China National Film Museum and Beijing Film Academy are invited to participate in the arrangement of this festival. Besides, Marco Müller, the famous Italian film critic, historian, director and screenwriter of documentary of film history is invited to serve as the Chief Advisor of the festival for the first time and other members of his team are also employed to serve as the advisor for film selection. Inviting a chief film advisor is a historic action that indicates BJIFF's efforts in improving its internationalism and professionalism, with an aim to attract more excellent films from at home and abroad to participate in it, to expand its influence and reputation in the film industry and to satisfy market needs. Drawing on the rich experience of first-class international film festivals, the Organizing Committee has founded the Beijing International Film Festival Co., Ltd., formulated the Administrative Rules for Sponsorship and Investment Promotion and the Interim Administrative Regulations for Investment Promotion  Agency and adopted the principle of combining fixed financial allowance with market development to promote the integration of government and social efforts in hosting the festival, improve the ability of the festival in creation and market operation and better its market operation pattern.

　　This year coincides with the 120th anniversary of the debut of the first film in the world and the 110th year of that of China. The 5th BJIFF shall undertake the glorious mission of Chinese films. Centering on the theme of the prosperous development of both films in the world and China, the festival focuses on showing the achievements of Chinese and foreign films, demonstrating the charm of excellent Chinese cultures and presenting Beijing City and the world a unique and grand meeting of films.

　　Welcome to Beijing to Watch the Best Films in Spring

　　The curation, invitation, screening, publicity, promotion and other work of the Out-of-Competition Section this year are undertaken by China Film Archive and relevant organizations. With the goal of "Welcome to Beijing to Watch the Best Movies in Spring" and a combination of means including directed invitation of movies, cooperative invitation and individual application, we have selected nearly 300 pieces of works (including about 180 foreign movies) from more than one thousand movies of over 50 countries and will be showing them in over 30 commercial cinemas, artistic cinemas and university cinemas in Beijing for eight days. This will also become the film international celebration on the largest scale in capital Beijing this year.

　　As an international public film festival, one opening film and one closing film have been arranged for Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF); 15 movies from different countries have been nominated in the Competition Section. At present, opening films, closing films and the name-list of the Competition Section are still being discussed. In this year, Luc Besson, a French film master has been invited to hold presidency of the Organizing Committee. In the "Review of Works of President of Organizing Committee" section, 6 masterpieces by Director Luc Besson of different periods will meet the public.

　　"Review of Master" Section is a focus by film-goers each year. To appreciate classics of the film history closely to the big movie screen is a wish of many viewers. Themes having been decided this year include: works review of King Hu who was a martial art master of Beijing nationality, many classic and excellent works he shot for Hong Kong and Taiwan companies including Shaw Brothers (Hong Kong) Limited, Union Film Company (Taiwan), Jiahe Entertainment Limited and others in the 1960s-1970s will be screened; this film festival will cooperate with China Film Foundation in holding special memorial activities in memorial of Mr. Wu Tianming, former Chairman of Xi'an Film Studio and tripod-lifter among China's fourth generation director; classic works including The Lady from Shangha", The Stranger and others by American film master Orson Welles will be screened since it happens to be his centenary; Roy Andersson, winner of Golden Lion and a Swedish film master with only a few but excellent works, his works including " A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence" which just won him a Golden Lion in the 71st Venice International Film Festival will also be shown together.

　　In the "Restoration of Classics" Section, the audience will see how classics of the film history will be rejuvenated by means of the latest technological means. In this section, Once Upon A Time in America, a master piece of literary epic of a sinister gang by Italian film master Sergio Leone will be screened in Mainland China for the first time in the form of 4K; it happens to be the centenary of the birth of Zhao Dan and Shi Hui, two greatest men stars in the Chinese film history and Ingrid Bergman, the "Swedish Rose", so some restored works of them will be presented. "Forever Angel", Audrey Hepburn is familiar to Chinese film fans. Her representative works, including Roman Holiday, Sabrina, Funny Face and Breakfast atTiffany's will meet Beijing audience.Last year, The BJIFF IMAX panorama was sucessfully held for the first time. This year, the organizing committee of BJIFF and IMAX will jointly present two IMAX titles during the festival: IMAX 3D Avatar (Special edition) and IMAX 3D The Life of PI. The screening of IMAX 3D Avatar will be one of the key highlights of BJIFF this year.

　　"Collection of Award-winning Films" Section is also an important section popular with the audience. The BJIFF has invited good films from award-winning works of last year from many important film festivals including the Academy Award, Cannes International Film Festival, Venice International Film Festival, Berlin International Film Festival and others because these films have basically represented the highest level of modern world film. For example, Winter Sleep which won Golden Palm in Cannes International Film Festival, Birdman, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Still Alice and others which won an Academy Award.

　　"Essence of Franchise Movie " Section has presented an entire length of movies such as Harry Potter, The Lord Of The Rings and others and has received good comments. In this year, the trilogy of The Godfather which is prestigious around the world with deep influence will be screened for Beijing audience for the first time. We believe that this will be a great feast for the eyes for film-goers.

　　"National Charm" Section is the greatest section in this year's BJIFF. Over 100 movies will be classified by country and screened together. We cooperated with consulates of many countries and relevant film-related organizations in holding activities for many of these sections such as French Film Week, Poland Film Week, Denmark Film Week and Brazil Film Week. In addition, there are also Japanese Film Section, South Korean Film Section, Indian Film Section and others. We believe that the audience will better understand the latest development achievements of films in the world by screening these films.

　　Apart from the above key sections, rich and colorful sections have also been designed for this session of BJIFF. These sections include: "Chinese Film Influence" Unit which introduces new works of Hong Kong and Taiwan, "Chinese Stories" Unit which reflects the achievements in new movie works in China, "Forward Future" Unit which greatly promotes new works by international new talents, "Documentary" Documentary Sector, "Multi-perspectives", "Anime Taste", "Tech-Spectacles", "Peking Opera Films", "Film of Opera" and others. There is also an outstanding feature in this film festival compared with that of last year. That is, "Film Critics’Recommendations" Section will be added to the BJIFF and famous independent critics in China will be invited to recommend their favorite works exhibited in this Film Festival so as to better guide the audience in watching movies and provide more, more references. 　　Building a Public Entertainment Platform and Creating a National Carnival Feast

　　Film Carnival is one of the seven main activities ofBeijing International Film Festival (BJIFF). The Film Carnival of BJIFFthis year will be held at Beijing Yanqi Lake Capital Guest House and Huairou Film & TV Demo Zone during April 15th to April24th. The venues include "one main venue, three sub-venues and multiple spots". "One main venue" refers to the Yanqi Lake Scenic Area which echoes with the International Exhibition Center-Opening Ceremony & Closing Ceremony venues; "three sub-venues" refer to Yangsong Film and TV Base, the Spring Legend Town and Yancheng Ancient Street; "multiple spots" refer to about 30 movie halls at the urban area.

　　As the Ecology-conservation Development Zone and Cultural & Technological High-end Industrial Zone, Huairou District will focus on building new functional zones including technology, film and television culture and conference & exhibition.  Especially after the 2014 APEC, Huairou is well deserved for the brand positioning of "Ecological Paradise, Pearl of Beijing Suburb, Chinese Studio and Capital Guest House". Yanqi Lake Ecological Development Demonstration Zone - Capital Guest House has become the perfect venue for the world high-tech conference. It is showing the new look of China. Thus, the Opening Ceremony & Closing Ceremony of the 5th BJIFF and Film Carnival complement each other. As the main venue of events, Yanqi Lake Scenic Area is across the lake to Capital Guest House, the site of APEC. The selection of activity contents is relatively more scientific. The theme highlights elements of film and more importance has been attached to experience in entertainment facilities.

　　As an important activity of the 5th BJIFF, this Film Carnival will provide an entertainment platform for citizens and visitors based on film related activities and best using the tourist resources in Huairou. It is a film culture and festival experiencing activity which is created for all tourists' participation, combined with film and TV technology show, acousto-optic effect exhibition, parade float, food fair, parent-children play, and celebrity meeting. Huairou has made elaborate preparation regarding to program planning, site layout, activity cycle and content arrangement. Professional team is invited to implement planning. This Film Carnival is full of laugh, happiness and interaction. Visiting, eating and playing, the tourists come to know about movie developments home and abroad.

　　Another three sub-venues apart from the main venue in Yanqi Lake Scenic Area have their own distinctive features. Yangsong Film and TV Base locates at the 15th exit of Jingcheng Expressway and the core area of China (Huairou) Film & TV Demo Zone approved by State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television of the People's Republic of China in May 2014. Film and TV tourism featuring costume and props of and filming by China Film Co., Ltd. and Stellar in the Studio will celebrate new activities and content. With the renewed vintage car museum opening to the public, the tourists will be deeply impressed. On the way to the Yanqi Lake Park, there lies a European-style town: Spring Legend Town. Its beautiful foreign stores attract many camera crews. The Cosplay parade andEuropean experience for children, among other activities during the carnival are all special activities designed for tourists. Yancheng Ancient Street is a cultural ancient street designed for the APEC Ministerial Meeting. Residents in this street will hold a folk activity called "Queen Mother Xiao Parade". Moreover, abundant food and agricultural products will be available such as Chinese chestnuts, sausages of Dashuiyu Village and Yushiyuan snacks. Mutianyu in Huairou, the Hongluo Temple and several other tourist attractions are well prepared for receiving tourists.

　　Huairou District will promptly publish accurate updates on the carnival via the Internet, mobile clients, news broadcasting, etc., so that visitors can arrange their routes in advance. At the same time, a mascot solicitation activity will be held for the Film Carnival.

　　Release of Official Poster of BJIFF for the First Time to Interpret Concept of Organizing 3M

　　Two theme posters of this year's Film Festival interpret the organization feature of 3M, "Master, Mass and Market" of Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF) and the core value and concept of "Tiantan Award" from various perspectives of artistic creation.

　　The first poster is "Pursuit of Dreams in Light and Shadow"

 which wins the first-level prize in the poster selection. Its inspiration comes from a kaleidoscope that has taken root in the memory of many people. With a background of colorful light and shadow seen in a kaleidoscope, the poster indicates the variety of the theme activities in the BJIFF. Moreover, the changeable views in the kaleidoscope share many artistic features with the film art that consists of light and shadow. In the poster, the "Tiantan Award" trophy is well incorporated into the bright colors in the background, which highlights the great tolerance of the Film Festival as well as the theme of the activity-"Share the Screen, Shape the Future".

　　The second poster is "Vitality",

and its inspiration originates from Beijing in April. In April, Beijing is characterized by refreshing breeze, vigorous things and shining stars. Likewise, the BJIFF in April is filled with a youthful atmosphere. The design of the poster is an extension of "Fields of Hope", the poster of the 4th BJIFF. The highly representative APEC blue and the green grass full of vitality serve as the main elements. Meanwhile, such landmark buildings as Tiantan and Huairou International Exhibition Center are also included in it. The silhouette of the "Tiantan Award" trophy is taken as the main visual element to reflect the brand orientation of the film festival-"International Level, Chinese Features and Beijing Style".
