Synopsis：In 1990s an international Chinese student James Lee runs into Ouyang and GaoYan who both work for a famous China telecoms network infrastructure manufacturer HD Company as he enters China Shenzhen. James joins HD Company. All the people in HD company are driven into a free market economy by both the era and their fate with putting all they have at stake. It is literally an army of mercenaries fighting for their survival.

James engages in HD Company’s fierce business battles, he found out the secrets of a HD Company’s success and the logic behind it, and got shocked by his colleagues’ sufferings from their business practices. 

Western company WesTel loses its most important market to HD company James, Ouyang and Gaoyan, and went bankrupt due to the fierce competitions. Its head in China, Alex Hardman, seeks revenge.

Both Ouyang and GaoYan get laid off. GaoYan almost commits suicide. James quits HD Company, and start their own business with his two friends. James’ lover WangYue worries James greatly since she sees the cruel reality that James and his friends face. A startup is not romantic.

It’s a small world. They run into Alex and become his business rival again. Both sides fight hard for their survival and dignity. Nobody can afford to lose their business. A deadly Trade War starts, and ends up with a tragedy. James said to Alex lastly‘Fair competition is the only way out for everyone’.
