On the afternoon of April 30, the 13th BJIFF Competition Section Tiantan Award Best Feature Film Media Viewing & Meeting the Jury was successfully held in Beijing. 

The attending guests included the Jury of the Tiantan Award: Fernando E. Juan Lima, President of Mar del Plata International Film Festival, Stanley Kwan, famous director from Hong Kong, China, Nadav Lapid, Israeli director, Pimpaka Towira, Thai director, Zhou Dongyu, Chinese actress and Cui Yan, Executive Deputy Director of the BJIFF Organizing Committee Office, Hao Jie, Deputy Director of the BJIFF Organizing Committee Office, Li Xiaohang, Director of Competition Department of the BJIFF Organizing Committee and Gu Gan, Director of Publicity & Promotion Department of the BJIFF Organizing Committee Office. The Punishment, winner of the Best Feature Film of the 13th BJIFF Tiantan Award, was screened at the media viewing. Focusing on the themes of "family", "love" and "women", the film started from details to create a thought-provoking story. After the media viewing, the film received high praise from the media on the site with the superb acting skills, rich emotional expression and the coherent long take.

In terms of the reason why this film was selected as the Best Feature Film, the five members of the 13th BJIFF Jury of Tiantan Award also shared the viewpoints of their own. Fernando E. Juan Lima said that The Punishment "brings the audience very close to the film, so that the film emotions hard to be conveyed have been effectively spread”. In addition, the film makes good use of the acting skills and film technology to tell the content and theme very well. He also shared that all the jury members were not troubled by the cultural difference during the process of selecting the films shortlisted for the Tiantan Award despite their different cultural backgrounds. Instead, they reached a consensus and "effectively convey very universal or global values".

According to Stanley Kwan, “Matias Bize, the director of The Punishment, is so good at the skill of ‘long take’ that even the camera has silently fallen in love with the characters and actors. The camera has played a unique pair of eyes of its own, which also represent the eyes of all the audience. That is why we believe it an excellent film.” When talking about the relationship between directors and producers, Stanley Kwan, who has served as a producer for many young directors, also said sincerely, “Being a producer does not mean that you can add something to the director arbitrarily; instead, you should stand aside as an appropriate reminder.”

"I felt very novel when I watched the film The Punishment”, said Nadav Lapid who was deeply impressed by this film, “As a very efficient and effective film, the film dares to touch many taboo topics in life. It has found the way of expression most suitable for the film content.” It is worth mentioning that Nadav Lapid also talked about The Shadowless Tower, an excellent film winning half of the 13th BJIFF Tiantan Award — “I really like the films like The Shadowless Tower which explore the people's life and existence."

Pimpaka Towira, said she had the empathy with the women issues discussed in the film — “to be the one you want, or to be the one others want”. She said that the women issues covered and displayed in the film not only exist in Argentine society, it is actually the common problem faced by the women all over the world. Meanwhile, Pimpaka Towira, who is also a director, praised the shooting skill of “long take”, "It allows us to watch the film as observers and follow the heroine to percept the force of female characters.”

“This film enables us to see the actors’ expressions from the bottom of heart", that’s why Zhou Dongyu was moved by The Punishment. The mother in the film is not a "perfect role". When Zhou Dongyu was asked, “Whether you may worry about being misunderstood to create such an image in the future”, she, as an actress, answered, "Not everyone in real life is perfect. Everyone has flaws. If I present the vivid and real image to the audience during the role interpretation, I believe they will be touched.” In addition, she was also deeply impressed by the thinking on the three topics of "love, family and mother" in the film.
