Harmony First: Construction of New Ecosystem for Dance Videos
The 2nd Beijing International Dance Video Festival (BIDVF) is to be held from April 28 to May 3, featuring 7 sections, including Screenings, Creation Limited, Performance, Workshop, Forum, Opening Ceremony and Closing Ceremony.
The first edition was initiated by the China Association of Performing Arts. The second edition is co-hosted by the BJcapital Langyuan, Beijing Theatres Netline Culture Co., Ou’lin Culture Media Co., Ltd. and Guangzhou Dajiafeiyue New Media Co., Ltd. I t has been included in the 13th Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF), and a dance video section is set up accordingly.
This year, the theme of “Harmony” extends from “More Love”, theme of the first edition, and signifies that the Beijing International Dance Video Festival will gather the power of international art, various industries, and promote the culture of “Harmony” through dance videos.
Seven sections
present a dance video feast
The 2nd edition comprises seven sections, namely Creation Limited , Screening Offline, Online Screening, Dancing City, Forum, Workshop and Dance Video Exhibition, each of which has its own highlights and is interconnected with one another. The festival aims to present a dance video feast that combines art, viewing experience and fun in a fresh, free and unconventional way so as to engage wider attention and popularity.
▍Creation Limited
The Creation Limited section calls for 6 outstanding teams in the dance video industry from around China, each of which is made up of 2 to 9 members. Those teams will complete dance videos within 48 hours under designated themes within set time, space and creative elements. And the whole creation process and life will be live streamed. The section will be held at Langyuan Station from April 28 to 30, 2023, and live streamed at the Beijing International Dance Video Festival and new media matrix in cooperation, through which the process of dance video creation is presented to the general public intuitively
▍Screening Offline
The Screening Offline consists of screening of films and dance videos. The 2nd BIDVF will screen outstanding dance feature films in the BJIFF screenings, including Chinese films, namely Dance Charm and Ballet in the Flames of War, and foreign films, namely Pina, Cunningham, Dancer, La Danseuse, and Chhakka Panja 4. The seven films will be screened in BJIFF designated cinemas.
As for the dance video screening, it will focus on dance video artists and teams. The BIDVF plans to invite short dance films by Guo Jiyong (also known as “Slash Player Uncle Ji”) and other guests, and screen them at the Yushe Entertainment Space inside BJcapital Langyuan. Besides, a post-screening talk will be organized, where dancers, filmmakers and scholars will be gathered to exchange their ideas and thoughts with the audience and dive into dance videos from multiple aspects.
▍Online Screening
The Online Screening Section aims to engage the general public through online events. It will cooperate with Hivideo in exclusive screening, and review and selection.
▍Dancing City
The Dancing City Section will screen multiple invited dance works, some of which will have video screening, workshop, post-screening talk and other related activities in parallel. The opening performances include the Guardians of Dreams presented and performed by China Disabled People’s Performing Art Troupe, and written and directed by Gong Xingxing with Tai Lihua as its Arts Director; the Diary Helps Composition by Pan Xiaonan, An Ink Drop on the Run and I am What I am by Tang Wanling Children’s Dance Theatre, and Two People (multimedia three people version) by Zhao Yuanhao.
▍Forum
The Forum will bring dance video professionals, scholars, prestigious artists and cultural celebrities together. A specially invited academic moderator will lead the experts and scholars to share their insights, exchange ideas and discuss their expertise, allowing the audience to learn about cutting-edge thoughts in the dance field at first hand. Panelists include Li Yang, Professor at the School of Arts, Peking University, and Zhang Yanjie, Deputy Chief Editor of the Journal of Beijing Dance Academy, etc.
▍Workshop
The Workshop will invite young professionals specialized in dance, video, photography, mind and body, stage play, screenplay and business among other areas as instructors. More than a dozen workshops will be organized offline to make up live experiences that online teaching lacked in recent years. Theory, practice and crossover collaboration will be included in the workshops to promote theoretical awareness and creative levels of Chinese dance videos through teaching.
▍Dance Video Exhibition
The newly added Dance Video Exhibition features a contemporary art exhibition with the theme of “dance”. It will last for one week, during which the BJcapital Langyuan and screening space will be transformed into a dance video exhibition space.
