Synopsis

Secretary of the most influential Communist Party in the Western world, Enrico Berlinguer challenged the international balance by seeking to bring the Communists to government in Italy and achieve socialism in a democratic country. From 1973, when he escaped an attack by the Bulgarian secret services, to the assassination of his main ally Aldo Moro in 1978, not forgetting his trips to Moscow and the covers of Time: the story of a man who wanted to change the world, but failed.

Andrea Segre

Director and screenwriter of films and documentaries, he is also a PhD in Communication Sociology and a co-founder of Zalab. He has written and directed four feature films—Io sono Li, La Prima Neve, L’Ordine delle Cose and Welcome Venice—which have been selected for and awarded at festivals such as Venice. Berlinguer: La grande ambizione is his latest film, chosen to open the 19th edition of the Rome Film Festival (2024), where it participates in the official selection in competition. His documentary works—Marghera Canale Nord, La Mal'ombra, Come un uomo sulla terra, Magari le cose cambiano, ll Sangue Verde, Mare Chiuso, Indebito, Come il peso dell'acqua, ISogni del Lago Salato, Ibi, Molecole and Trieste è bella di notte—have also been featured at major festivals, including Venice and Locarno.
