Chen Kuo-Fu to Jury President for Final-round Selection of Project Pitches

  Chen Kuo-Fu, a famous director, screenwriter and producer, will head the jury for the final-round selection of the Project Pitches of the 10th Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF), and attend the International Project Pitching of the Beijing Film Market of the 10th BJIFF on August 25 along with Yong Mei, a renowned actress and the winner of the Silver Bear for Best Actress; and Deng Chao, a well-known actor and director, to select the winners of six awards in the Project Pitches.

Director, producer and screenwriter

  He once worked as the head of Columbia Pictures Film Production Asia Limited, and chief film producer of Huayi Brothers Film Investment Co., Ltd. He has produced the Detective Dee series, Painted Skin: The Resurrection, and If You Are the One, all registering 800 million U.S. dollars at the box office. He is named by media outlets “One of the Most Influential Figure in Chinese Film Market Over Past 20 Years.” He founded CKF Pictures in 2013 with the goal of exploring “filmmaking originality and market possibilities”.

  His directorial efforts include The Personals, Double Vision and The Message. The Personals was awarded the 44th Asia Pacific Screen Award for Best Screenplay; The Message was named the Film of the Year at the 10th Chinese Film Media Awards and Top 10 Films of 2000s.

Actress

  Yong Mei is a Chinese actress. She has been working in the film industry for 25 years and has played roles in many films and TV dramas. She starred in So Long, My Son (2017) directed by Wang Xiaoshuai, and became the very first actress in Chinese mainland to be awarded the Silver Bear for Best Actress. She was also awarded the 32nd Golden Rooster Award for Best Actress for the film, and named the Top 10 Actresses of Year 2019 by the Guardian, the most established British newspaper.

  Films: Cell Phone, Ocean Heaven, Aftershock, Young Style, The Assassin, and So Long, My Son;

  TV dramas: A Place Where the Dream Begins, Chinese Style Divorce, Son in Mourning, The Brink, Tumultuous Times Scholars, A Little Reunion.

Jury Member for Final-round Selection

Director, actor and presenter

  President of Tianjin Orange Image Media Co., Ltd. and co-founder of the Supertheater. In 2006, he was named the Best Supporting Actor at the 29th People’s Hundred Flowers Awards for the film Assembly. The Dead End he starred in 2015 opened up a new era of commercial art films and brought him the Golden Goblet Award for Best Actor at the 18th Shanghai International Film Festival and the Best Actor at the 31st Golden Rooster Awards.

  Representative works:

  Films: The Dead End, Looking Up, Shadow, Mermaid, Duckweed, The Liquidator, American Dreams in China and I Belonged to You.

  TV dramas: You are My Brother, Happiness As Flowers, Honey Sweet, and Another Way to Heaven.

  The outstanding projects (click to view) shortlisted for the final-round selection will appear during the road show on August 25, and 10 projects will contend for the "Special Award", the "Best Original Script Award", "Projects with Greatest Commercial Potential" and the "Best Creativity Award". WIP projects will vie for the "Most Investment Value Project Award" and the "Team with Greatest Potential Award". Among these winning projects, four projects will receive the "International Promotion Award". They will head to world-renowned film festivals and two of them will get a learning and exchange opportunity from the Motion Picture Association of America (MPA).
