History of Hangzhou Family on Scroll: Most Anticipated Chinese Youth Film This Year
If you are careful enough, you will notice that
  Hangzhou is a non-negligible coordinate
In the waves of regional film creation across the country in recent years
  This modern and poetic city
Has become increasingly prominent on the map of Chinese films in recent years
Director Gu Xiaogang's new film-Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains is exactly one of the best among them
  Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains

This non-negligible new film was selected as the closing film of the Critics' Week of the 72nd Festival de Cannes in 2019. It was highly praised by Charles Tesson, Artistic Director of the "Cannes Critics' Week" prior to screening, and was hailed as a "most representative masterpiece with traditional Chinese film aesthetics in recent years" by many Chinese journalists who had watched it earlier during the film festival. It also won the "Best Feature Film" and "Best Director" awards at the 2019 FIRST International Film Festival.
More excitingly, Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains, an outstanding directorial debut, has been shortlisted for the Official Section of the 10th Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF), and will be screened as the opening film of the 10th BJIFF at the online exhibition delivered in cooperation with iQIYI. The film that won the "Special Award" in the Project Pitches of the Beijing Film Market at the 8th BJIFF will return with mission.
Gu Xiaogang, Director of Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains, was born in Fuyang, Zhejiang. This small town next to Hangzhou has gone on a fast track via the 2016 G20 Hangzhou Summit.
Gu that records people's daily life with documentaries was keenly aware of the ongoing changes in his hometown. Based on the life experience of his own and ancestors, he called in his relatives to act in the film just as Bi Gan, a director from Kaili, did.
Set in Fuyang, the film presents a plot in which an old woman suddenly falls ill at a birthday banquet, to depict the trivialities of her four sons in the family and their emotional conflicts.
As a rare family film in China, the film was said to be consistent with films of Hou Hsiao-hsien, Edward Yang and Hirokazu Koreeda in terms of theme and aesthetic style. The most attractive feature is introducing Chinese traditional painting aesthetics and frequently using lateral dolly shots to reflect Fuyang people's daily life on the screen scroll.
With the elapse of the time, the audience can find out the real reflections of the young generation and their elder generation on the life in Fuyang from the film. As the director described in an interview, there are a lot of improvisations in the film, which is commendable for a family film.
Let's watch Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains together in August
To witness the unique charm of the Chinese youth masterpiece
  And perceive family affection
