BJIFF Project Pitches Continues to Gain Momentum; Harif and Damp Season Highly Acclaimed
Harif / Damp Season
On August 3, 2020, Harif shortlisted for the Project Pitches of the 10th Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF) was awarded the Jury Prize at the 14th FIRST International Film Festival. As cinemas start to reopen, the long-awaited BJIFF brings a climax for filmgoers. The recovery of the film market is undoubtedly bringing the light to the promising young filmmakers with new works.
Damp Season, a winner of the Outstanding Award for WIP Category at the 9th BJIFF, also participated in the Competition and Screening at the FIRST International Film Festival and was widely acclaimed by audiences after screening. Damp Season was premiered at the Bright Future section of the Rotterdam International Film Festival in January 2020, and won the Grand Prize for the International Competition of the 21st Jeonju International Film Festival in June 2020.
Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains / Wisdom Tooth
The films Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains and Wisdom Tooth were finished in 2019 with the financial support of BJIFF Project Pitches, and gained laurels at international and domestic film festivals. Following on more high acclaim from professional media and film festivals this year, the two films are well prepared for screening in the near future.
The recognition of finished films competing for the BJIFF Beijing Film Market Project Pitches from the industry and market now maintains a constant growth at a stable pace. Playing a leading role in reflecting the very latest in the film market, the BJIFF Project Pitches does not define the genre, but seeks for the best filmmakers and films. Since its establishment, it has been serving as a platform for cooperation between filmmakers and the market by providing incubation and support services for the financing, production and promotion necessary to projects at different stages.
Summer Detective
As a new addition to the 9th BJIFF Beijing Film Market in 2019, the WIP Project Pitches aims to serve the interactions and exchange of various projects with the post-production, promotion and publication markets, and provide tangible integration services for those projects in progress. For instance, at the initial year of the founding of the Outstanding Award for WIP Category, Summer Detective, winner of the Outstanding Award for WIP Category, successfully hit the silver screen with the support of the BJIFF.
Myna Bird / The Inglourious Dogs
Albeit with the market uncertainties in the first half of 2020, our filmmakers have not been discouraged, and instead worked hard to create track records in response to the care from viewers and all walks of life. The shooting of Myna Bird, winner of the Projects with Greatest Commercial Potential at the 9th BJIFF Project Pitches, was completed after the work resumption this year, and the production of The Inglourious Dogs, winner of the Most Investment Value Project Award, was finished in February 2020.
With the advent of the 10th BJIFF, Beijing Film Market Project Pitches will continue to forge ahead with the Chinese film market and filmmakers, exploring and supporting potential Chinese films under the framework of open and fair selection in a bid to build a professional pitching platform of international vision and bring vitality to China’s film market.
