Beijing Film Market Kicks off on August 25 with Five Major Sections
The 10th Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF) Beijing Film Market will be running both online and at the Beijing Yanqi Lake International Convention & Exhibition Center in Huairou District from August 25 to 28, 2020. As a film trade activity during the BJIFF, the Beijing Film Market has become one of the most active film markets in Asia. With the theme of “Display, Promotion, Transaction and Exchange”, this edition features five major sections, namely, Exhibition, Project Pitches, Industry Conversations, Events & Activities, and Contract Signing Ceremony, covering the entire film industry chain. It will unlock the full potential of industrial connection.
-Investment Exhibition-
The Beijing Film Market Exhibition will be held online from August 25 to 28. To continue highlighting services and create an outstanding online platform for exhibitors to display their corporate and project information, the Exhibition will feature a combination of 3D display and 2D display.

In a 3D+2D system, exhibitors can display their corporate and project information in separate interfaces. Visitors to the official website of the Online Exhibition can click to access virtual booths on interfaces of corporate profiles.
Booths in corresponding zones will be displayed online in a proportion of 1:1 so that exhibitors can add information such as corporate profile, services, works, projects and contact information on pages of virtual booths.
To better serve exhibitors, the function of online business negotiation has been added to the Online Exhibition to facilitate one-on-one negotiations between global buyers and film & television institutions.
-Project Pitches-
The Project Pitches serves as an incubator of the BJIFF for potential young filmmakers. The 10th edition aims to develop an integrated project transaction platform that covers training, review and selection, support, negotiation, incubation, tracking and showcasing, and make the event a highlight of the Beijing Film Market.
The Project Pitches this year attracted a record 829 entries in total, including 777 pitching projects and 52 WIP projects. On August 25, the top 10 pitching projects and top 6 WIP projects will be pitched publicly. That night, the winners will be announced at the Award Reception and presented with the award by the Project Pitches jury. Chen Kuo-Fu, a famous producer, will head the jury for the final-round selection of the Project Pitches, and attend the International Project Pitching along with Yong Mei, a renowned actress and the winner of the Silver Bear for Best Actress, and Deng Chao, a well-known director and actor, to select the winners of the six awards in the Project Pitches.
-Industry Conversations-
The Industry Conversations serves as the observer and barometer of the film industry. It offers a platform for filmmaking professionals to have exchanges of thoughts and sharing of new knowledge. As BJIFF’s most forward looking exchange event, the event looks at new trends of the film industry and hottest topics, and hosts discussions about cutting-edge trends, thus building up its brand of “industry barometer”.
The Industry Conversations this year is scheduled for August 26 to 27, featuring two events—Summit on China’s Film Investment and Financing & Launch Event of 2020 Report on Survey of China Film Investment and Financing, and Rising Directors’ Industry Conversations.
The Rising Directors’ Industry Conversations kicking off on August 27 will invite filmmakers such as Xu Lei, Director of Summer Detective, Gu Xiaogang, Director of Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains, and Larry Yang, Director of Adoring to have in-depth discussions and share rising directors’ story of creation and growth.
-Contract Signing Ceremony-
This year’s Contract Signing Ceremony will be taking place on August 28. Every edition of the Signing Ceremony announces a series of hit films and related companies’ projects or partnerships to attract attention inside and outside the industry, boost the morale of filmmaking professionals, create opportunities for exchanges about the industry’s development, and establish a diverse quality platform for crossover cooperation and integration of resources of the film industry. With a focus on the projects incubated by the Beijing Film Market, the event will demonstrate prosperity of the industry.
Apart from the said five sections, the Organizing Committee will join forces with China Film Co., Ltd. and Huaxia Film Distribution Co., Ltd. to deliver the China Film-Huaxia Film Presentation of the 10th BJIFF on August 21-24, 2020, during which the foreign films to be released in the second half of 2020 will be promoted. Impasse, Vanguard, Coffee or Tea, My Hometown and I, A Beautiful Life, Legend of Deification and other films will all appear as a part of the Film Preview Salon.
