Special screening activities at the Online Cinemas of 10th BJIFF

  On August 22, the 10th Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF), on the theme of “In Pursuit of a Shared Dream” took place as planned. To enable more fans to feel the charm of BJIFF, discover new films of high quality and expand the world of graphics, the 10th BJIFF joins hands with Hugoeast Online Cinema to hold the special screening activities on the theme of “A Decade of Images in the Autumn”. 
  Starting from August 26, five online cinemas will be open in four weeks, presenting new films of BJIFF online. Logging in the official exclusive screening platform iQIYI, the audience can watch new films, communicate with professional guests in various fields in the chat groups of the Online Cinemas, transcending the geographical limit and enjoying the online grand event of BJIFF.

  Featuring a VIP virtual hall accommodating 500 people, the Online Cinemas sincerely invite fans worldwide to get involved. On the day of the event, fans will enter a WeChat group. Accompanied by warm-up music, fans can select seats online according to their personal preferences, and log in iQIYI to watch the movie. Holding virtual snacks, you can say hello to people next to you, with the company of the fan community online.
  After the screening activities of the Online Cinemas, we will invite relevant special guests to drop into the WeChat group, sending voice messages with fans inside. They may be artists, event planners, film scholars, or nonfiction writers, architects, or music critics. The moment the movie ends, the audience will be like in an offline forum. With a microphone in hand, they will be more likely to be selected to ask a question and have an answer. Moreover, organic discussions could also be conducted among the fans, which could satisfy the desire for communication to the greatest extent in the fast-paced Online Cinemas. Before closing, the projectionist will present fans with an exclusive souvenir ticket to take a photo to memorize a wonderful evening.

  The Online BJIFF features multiple perspectives, artistic quality and online premiers, which are full displayed by the selection. Over the next four weeks, we will watch five films from different countries.
  The first stop is Krabi, a holiday island located in South Thailand. With a 16 mm film camera, Ben Rivers and Anocha Suwichakornpong enable the viewers to see the island at different times, like a mysterious adventure journey. The second stop is Finland, when it will be back to the early 20th century. Refocusing on Helena, a brilliant artist long neglected by the art history, viewers will pay attention to her remarkable intimate relation with her confidante, Einar.

  The third stop is France. Main cast of A Man and a Woman, the love story once captivating moviegoers, reunites after 50 years, posing the question: when lovers turn old, do they still have the courage to fall in love? The fourth stop is Berlin, Germany. The history of Berlin is intertwined with the ancient myth, accompanied by the contemporary relationships between men and women. Should Undine, a water spirit, be betrayed by her lover, would it trigger the curse in the Middle Ages? The final stop is New York. At the store of handcrafted guitars on Carmine Street, Greenwich Village, Jarmusch and bands of Jarmusch and Bob Dylan drop by one after another, come across the one-of-a-kind guitar, play “Bone of a City”, and listen to stories from the past.

  “Images in the Autumn” is derived from a poem named Autumn Night by Du Mu. We build a virtual screen in autumn, watching movies and enjoying the cool in a virtual cinema. “A Decade of Images” will witness the most touching film graphics at the 10th BJIFF. “A Decade of Images in the Autumn” invites you to gather around online, watch new films, get involved into the interactive activities after the screening event, and participate into the 10th BJIFF.

  Synopsis
  A beautiful resort bay in South Thailand, Krabi witnesses the ancient supernatural stories and folk legends, with the gentle breeze blowing and the waves beating the shore. Shells and tombs boast a history of tens of thousands of years, while prehistoric humans in the dark depths of the caves stare out into the distance at the crowded beaches several centuries later. Revealing everything about Krabi, the girl guides tourists around for sightseeing. Narratives defying the time and scenery transcending the eras, the past, present and future of Krabi are all superimposed into one, given the imaginary and documentary graphics. In 2019, or the year 2562 in the Buddhist calendar, the movie treats the audience with graphics at the moment.
  Adept at exploring serious political topics by means of poetic graphics, the Thai director Anocha Suwichakornpong works with the experimental director Ben Rivers, delivering this epic production transcending the time and space with a super 16mm film camera. Featuring the distinctly clear combination of the imaginary and the real, as well as the integration of elegant songs and graphics, the movie tell stories specific to Krabi.

  Synopsis
  The film is set in modern-day Berlin. The heroine, Undine, is a consultant for the city development bureau. If the man who mates with her betrays her, she’ll kill the man and return to the water. The heroine of the film wants to resist this curse, so she leaves Berlin. At this time, she meets Christoph, an industrial diver working in a reservoir area in western Germany. The two fall in love. Before long, Christoph notices that Undine seems to be running away from something, and he feels being betrayed...
  Undine is the first movie out of a trio of spirit movies by Christian Petzold, while the other two will involve Sylphid, the spirit of air, and Gnome, the spirit of earth.

  Synopsis
  The movie documents five common days within the Carmine Street Guitars store located in Greenwich Village. Greenwich Village, once the heart of Bohemia, New York, is now home to upscale hotels and luxury boutiques. However, one modest store of handmade guitars, has resisted the encroaching commercial development, thus lying quietly in a busy neighborhood: Carmine Street Guitar. In this unique store, guitars are made from reclaimed wood, salvaged from old hotels, bars and churches among other buildings in New York. Each guitar is unique and playing such a guitar seems to enable the player to personally experience the history and story of a city.
