Exciting Events and Engaging Movies of BJIFF Day 3
  On the third day of the 10th Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF) opened on August 22, various screening events and forums continued to be delivered in an organized way. Let’s take a look back on the major events and activities on Day 3. 
1. Sino-Foreign Film Co-Production Forum: Industrialized Co-Production on International Market
  The Sino-Foreign Film Co-Production Forum & Film Pitch was held on the afternoon of August 24 at the Beijing Yanqi Lake International Convention & Exhibition Center. The event is composed of seven parts, including the Sino-Foreign Co-Production Policy Interpretation, Sino-Foreign Film Co-Production Forum, Excellent Sino-Foreign Co-Production Cases Sharing, Sino-Foreign Co-Production Film Pitch, “Night of Co-Production” Cocktail Party. Chinese and foreign guests including Liu Chun, Liu Hongtao, Zhao Fang (Gillian Zhao), Jiang Defu, Renny Harlin, Shunji Iwai and Dato' Norman bin Abdul Halim discussed issues with respect to practical cooperation in film industrialization, such as the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on the film industry, development of local genres with consideration to international market, and international collaboration in film industrialization. 
2. Motion Picture Association Film Workshop: Talent Training and Creativity & Creation become the Key to Industrialized Films
  The Motion Picture Association Film Workshop organized by the BJIFF, Motion Picture Association of America (MPA), and co-organized by the Fanink, was held at the Beijing Yanqi Lake International Convention & Exhibition Center. This edition featuring the theme of “Film Talent Cultivation System under Industrialization in China” invited senior Chinese and international filmmakers to have exchanges with young Chinese filmmakers on the site or via video chatting.
  As Joe Russo, one of the Russo brothers who directed The Avengers franchise, stated, MPA members have launched many film productions and management workshops over the past several years, and strengthened exchanges and cooperation between Hollywood and Chinese filmmakers. He also added, “Movie creation requires collective wisdom and efforts. Instead of imposing one’s opinions on others, creators should focus on interaction and cultural exchanges. Let’s keep exploring all kinds of models to strengthen our partnership and exchanges.”
3. The Harmonica Girl has been Found
  A moving moment happened last night by the end of the Cinema Paradiso screened in Hall 1 of the Beijing Jiayu Jinyi International Cinema City Co., Ltd.: a girl played the original score of the movie in the end with harmonica while the audience was about to leaving the hall. It was raining heavily then. But they stopped, listened to her performance and gave her the third round of applause after the movie. We found the girl today. Let’s take a look at her story.
4. 3rd Class of Online BJIFF-Classes: Enjoy Most Professional Film Classes at Home
  The BJIFF has launched a series of “Decade Moments Cinema” franchise classes online. A total of 11 classes are presented by experts and scholars from the China Film Art Research Center and Beijing Film Academy regarding the classic films screened in the Beijing Film Panorama of the 10th BJIFF, related filmmakers and behind-the-scene stories. 
  Today’s class is about the Apocalypse Now. The film is known for long and scary shooting process full of changes and accidents, making it quite dramatic and hallucinatory. At the 32nd Festival de Cannes in 1979, the jury was excited to award the Golden Palm to Francis Ford Coppola for the unfinished works. The unconventional move is actually reasonable, which accorded with the works’ pioneering thoughts. 
  More classic films including the Cinema Paradiso, The Matrix, and Forrest Gump will be interpreted. The event will last till September 22.
5 Audience Decides the Ending of Interactive Film Late Shift for the First Time!
  An innovative interactive film Late Shift introduced by the BJIFF was released on August 24. It is the first time for such an interactive film to be screened in Chinese mainland. The film is an interactive crime suspense. During the interaction, the audience needs to make choices at more than 180 key moments that determine the fates of the characters according to the development of the plot, which will lead to different stories and finally usher in seven different endings. In the whole process, the audience will not encounter any pauses or cycling pictures, so it seems like they perform a film in person. The interactive film brings to the audience brand new maximum immersive experience.
6. Online BJIFF-Class-Sunac Culture Animation Class: Hot Class Opens
  The Online BJIFF-Class-Sunac Culture Animation Class, jointly delivered by the BJIFF and Sunac Culture, was put online on August 23. The class is to be offered in 8 sessions. Sunac Culture’s animation professionals will be invited to introduce the history and current situation of the animation industry at home and abroad, the process of animated film production, the derivative development and planning of animation IP, and other key topics surrounding the animation industry, to introduce the ecology of the animation industry in a systematic manner.
7. TV Screenings: Tune in Well-rated Movies
  The TV Screenings continue to screen Chinese and foreign classics, such as French sports comedy Comme des Gar?ons (Let the Girls Play), The Taking of Tiger Mountain, The Final Master, American Dreams in China and other Chinese classics produced in recent years. Please tune in Beijing Satellite TV, BTV Movie & TV Channel, and BTV Youth Channel for all the classics of the TV Screenings.
8. Online Screenings: Check out Excellent New Films Online 
  Many excellent new films were released in BJIFF’s Online Screenings on August 24. Outstanding films that have attracted worldwide attention in recent years including the Hope Gap, Sanctuary, Disappearance, Krabi, 2562, and Frankie were streaming for the first time. 

9. Youth Science Movie Section: To Enlighten Scientific Dreams
  The Youth Science Movie Section of the 10th Beijing International Film Festival & 2nd Beijing International Youth Science Video Exhibition & Screenings guided by the Beijing Association for Science and Technology and Organizing Committee Office of the 10th BJIFF, and organized by the Beijing Children and Youth Science Center and Beijing Children and Youth Science Education Association was officially closed.
  The event utilized cinematography technologies to enlighten their scientific dreams, improve their scientific quality and support them in serving the country by science, and display teenagers’ mental outlook and cultural confidence with the demeanor of China and the capital. The first batch of accredited “Beijing Teenager Scientific Film Creation Centers” will mobilize specialized colleges and universities to start cooperation in course development, film production and talent training so as to improve Beijing teenagers’ creation of scientific films, and enhance comprehensive competency of teenagers and scientific instructors.
10. Outdoor Screenings: Film-studded Summer Evening
  The Outdoor Screenings presented A Tree in the House, The True Hearted, and The Weight of Water were rolled out at Inside-out Cinema, Nanluo Bookstore, and Maple Garden Drive-in Cinema. 
11. VR Screenings: Immersive Viewing Experience
  BJIFF’s Virtual Reality (VR) Section opened on August 23, aimed to demonstrate enchanting combination of VR technology, and films and stage plays. A total of 18 works from 10 countries and regions are to be screened in the section. They are either winners or the Official Selection of the Venice International Film Festival, Sundance Film Festival, South by Southwest and other international film festivals. In particular, it’s the first time for the VR trilogy—Aloft, La Camera Insabbiata and A Trip to the Moon, which was once invited to be screened at the Directors’ Fortnight held in parallel to the Festival de Cannes, to be screened together in China. The event includes four parts, namely Vision, Fusion, Illusion and Meditation, enabling 360-degree viewing for the audience to choose the perspective and direction, and understand the relationship between them and the screened works. Or the audience may use a pair of consoles to star in the works and cast on their illusion. From free fall in the Aloft, fly in La Camera Insabbiata to flying to outer space in the A Trip to the Moon, VR enables the audience to travel around the universe, to the past and future. The event is held at the Star Theater in Xicheng District, Beijing between 1:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. till August 29.
