The 11th Special Effects Film Screening of China Science and Technology Museum & 11th Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF)-Science and Technology Section will take place online and offline at the China Science and Technology Museum (CSTM) from September 22 to October 10, 2021.

Based on the development direction of the sci-fi & science film industry in the new era, with the theme "Films Light up the Dream of Science", this year's Science and Technology Section includes film screening, science popularization, masterpiece selection and industrial exchange, focuses on the role of sci-tech films in promoting science, shows the public the development of sci-tech films, offers the audience fabulous sci-tech film experiences and broadens their scientific horizons.

From September 22 to October 10, four special effects cinemas in CSTM will screen 39 excellent films from 18 countries such as China, the U.S., Germany, Australia, Poland, France, Greece, Canada, Spain, the Netherlands, Finland and Belgium, including 15 films to be premiered in China, 2 films to be premiered in Asia and 6 award-winning films in screening events during film festivals. 19 sci-fi short films will be screened in a loop for free on the LED screens in the public rest areas of the cinemas. Films covering a wide range of fields such as advanced technology, aerospace, wonder and nature, science animation and futuristic sci-fi will meet fans' various needs.

Reviewing Revolutionary Classics, Regaining Memories of the Times

The BJIFF-"Special Exhibition-Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Founding of the Communist Party of China" will screen four revolutionary films for free at CSTM from September 24 to 28, and deliver "Guidance of Flag · Brilliance of Films"-Film Experience Exhibition. The exhibition will present two revolutionary classics: Roaring Across the Horizon and The Unfailing Radio Wave, reproducing the classic scenes of the films in immersive rooms. The display and atmosphere of the rooms allow visitors to feel the spirit of Li Xia accomplishing his glorious mission in radio wave and feel the excitement about the explosion of China's first atomic bomb…we invite you to visit the exhibition and hope you will follow the revolutionary spirit in the film journey and inherit revolutionary tradition.

Sci-fi Film Salon

The sci-fi film is a bridge linking science to the public and technology to art, as well as the first choice of arousing teenagers' curiosity about the world, scientific awareness and adventurous spirit. On September 25, CSTM will invite experts and science masters to attend an online sci-fi film salon themed "Films Light up the Dream of Science", to explore the charm and significance of sci-fi films, interpret and appreciate sci-fi classics, and recommend a list of sci-fi films to teenagers.

Works selection

Results to be unveiled

A jury made up of five invited experts will select "Best Scientific Film", "Best Creative Film" and "Best Special Effects Film" through site viewing, scoring and panel discussions. The results will be unveiled on September 25.

Industrial exchange

Focusing on advanced technologies

During the Science and Technology Section, industrial meetings such as New Special Effects Film Presentation and New Special Effects Technology Presentation will be held online. With focus on advanced special effects cinema technologies at home and abroad, domestic and foreign leading institutions and enterprises in the special effects film industry will be invited to recommend new films, introduce new technologies and products of special effects films, analyze the development trend of special effects cinemas, and discuss the new direction of screening technologies of special effects science films.
