　　Synopsis: Feng Genfa, a young farmer, falls in love with Xiaolan, an orphan girl in his village, while the landlord Geng Dadao wants to take Xiaolan as his concubine. Feng and Xiaolan flee to Shanghai overnight. They have a son years later and live a hard life. Geng comes to Shanghai for concubinage, finds the couple, scatters the family, while Xiaolan is also killed. Feng then joins the volunteer army to resist Japanese troop. One day, he finds Geng among a group of rescued refugees but he finally decides to let him go.
