Honors Unveiled at Samsung Short Mobile Film Forum – Short Mobile Film, Beloved of the Industry
Today, the 11th Beijing International Film Festival -- Samsung Short Mobile Film Forum was successfully held in Beijing. Cui Yan, Director of BJIFF Operation Center at Beijing Radio & Television Station (BRTV) and Executive Deputy Director of the Organizing Committee Office of the Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF), Ma Hong, Director of the Advertising Operation Center of BRTV, Zhang Daijun, President of Samsung Electronics China Research Center and recommended by the jury members Ye Ning, a famous producer, Shu Huan, a famous screenwriter and Li Weiran, a famous director, as well as Feng En, Chief Marketing Officer of Samsung Electronics Greater China, present at the forum, awarded various honors like the Best Director and Best Screenwriter at the Samsung Short Mobile Film Section, and had a roundtable discussion on “technology empowers image revolution" in order to highlight the significance of short mobile films for exploring the new driving force for the film industry.

As the mobile shooting gains its popularity, the concept of films is changing. In order to encourage young filmmakers to create more free and innovative works and discover the new forces for China’s film industry, the BJIFF and Samsung jointly launched "Samsung Short Mobile Film Section", which is the most innovative section of the BJIFF and has attracted wide attention from the industry.
Ms. Ma Hong, Director of the Advertising Operation Center of BRTV, said in her speech that the BJIFF, as the world’s most influential film cultural event platform in Beijing, has been committed to discovering innovative power for Chinese films. Feng En, Chief Marketing Officer of Samsung Electronics Greater China, said in his address that he would continue to encourage young filmmakers to create more wonders with Samsung mobile phone imaging technology.

Jury members Ye Ning, a famous producer, Shu Huan, a famous screenwriter/director and Li Weiran, a famous director, spoke highly of the mobile shooting for its higher flexibility. They said that young directors are becoming bolder and more creative.

In the end, Wind Chimes won the Best Director of Samsung Short Mobile Film Section (professional group) at the 11th BJIFF. Wang Hao, a young director, made excellent expressions based on daily life experience and excellent images; Ma Shi, a young director, showed us the curiosity and expectation of a little boy in Xinjiang in his film Adili and His Friends from Mars, which won the Best Screenwriter (professional group). In addition, Cao Gai, Good Evening Hotline and Fall into Miranda were granted Best Cinematography, Best Editing and Most Promising Talent at the professional group respectively for their extraordinary creative ideas and outstanding performances. Zi Wang and other directors from the mass group won five honors, such as Best Director and Best Screenwriter.

At the roundtable forum of “Technology Leads Image Revolution”, Ye Ning, a famous producer, Shu Huan, a famous screenwriter/director and Li Weiran, a famous director, and Zhang Daijun, President of Samsung Electronics China Research Center, jointly discussed the significance of technology promoting film reform and short mobile film creation.

Ye Ning, a famous producer, held that Samsung has made a good start that it encouraged young filmmakers to be freer in creation with the innovative technology of mobile films and aroused their creativity and passion. "There is no level in filmmaking, and it is the hardest to express your films". He expected that the BJIFF and Samsung will continue to provide a stage for young filmmakers, while they have the most favorable technical convenience, and can make films boldly and innovatively. Just "use your mobile phones to create and be your own master". Shu Huan, a famous screenwriter/director, was impressed by the diverse types of short films at the section, such as science fiction, suspense and plot films, and some of them were highly experimental and showed the bolder and braver attempts of young filmmakers. Director Li Weiran spoke highly of the short films in terms of image standards for the great diversity in contents and standards in creation, and he expressed his expectation of more excellent film works and creators with mobile filming technologies.

Zhang Daijun, President of Samsung Electronics China Research Center, thought of the exploration of imaging technology of Samsung since 2013. Integrating Samsung's imaging technology of smart cameras into mobile phones constantly promoted the development of mobile filming technology, and encouraged young filmmakers to make films with mobile phones. We have seen a lot of surprises at the 11th BJIFF. Samsung plans to further boost the healthy development of Chinese films and discover more outstanding young filmmakers together with the BJIFF.
