Song of Spring, Winner of Media House Programme among Shortlists for Tiantan Award at 12th BJIFF
A matured international film festival needs not only various genres of films, but also diversified and professional expressions for evaluation. In order to promote the benign and orderly development of film art, Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF) set up Media House Programme in 2021. This year, all the films shortlisted for the Tiantan Award were screened in relevant cinemas from August 13 to 19. As of August 19, all the films shortlisted for the Tiantan Award have been reviewed and graded.
It is worth mentioning that, the Media House Programme this year was fully upgraded, for which two young filmmakers with rich experience in performing arts, Qi Xi and Song Yang, were invited as promoters for the Media House Programme. With practical experience and theory, they conducted in-depth analysis on films, and shared their opinions on the films from a professional perspective, bringing new views for film evaluation.

During the media reviews, Qi Xi, with focus on social issues, sincerely introduced excellent the shortlists for Tiantan Award such as Anatolian Leopard and Call Jane. "Coming to the 12th BJIFF to enjoy the best films" is what impressed her most after watching the film. “To publicize the diversified creations of the main melody films", Song Yang introduced the shortlists such as Sardar Udham and Kong and Jigme, hoping that Chinese films will bloom with our own fruits on this fertile soil.
In addition, a lot of media experts and film critics from 13 media including the China Movie News, Yizhan Editorial of the Beijing Daily, The Beijing News, m.1905.com, Sina Film, Phoenix New Media Ltd., World Screen, DeepFocus, Duliyu, Pocket Film, Screen Traveller, Lu Zhiyu and Falanxi Jiaopian also joined the Media House Programme to score the shortlisted films for the Tiantan Award with high specification, quality, standard and level, provide professional support and authoritative platforms for promoting more excellent films from home and abroad and carrying the resonance to the masses with more diversified creations.

The score showed that the domestic film Song of Spring, was given the highest average score with 4.3 points for its delicate female perspective that was highly favored by most media experts and film critics. DeepFocus commented that what is carried by mother-daughter relationship in the film is not only equality and companionship, but also the "love like a tide". The French film Full Time with perfect combination of music and pictures is highly infectious for emotions. It won an average score of 4 points, also with a high praise. Screen Traveller commented that the film showed a great "sense of spy drama". The Thai film Fast & Feel Love also gained a good reputation for its profound discussion on interpersonal relationships and the meaning of life, with an average score of 3.8. Yizhan Editorial of the Beijing Daily complimented that “with laugh and tears, it teaches us what is humor and what is ‘love’".

BJIFF is a place of diversified cultures and high tolerance. The all-around upgraded Media House Programme for Tiantan Award at the 12th BJIFF is a perfect proof. It not only strengthened the professionalism of BJIFF that showed to all film industry players and fans the professionalism and authority, but also deepened the charm of film culture and the concept of keeping pace with the times, which further highlighted the responsibility of the BJIFF as an international film festival.
