The Mirror of Fortune

In the Ming Dynasty, Yingzhou Magistrate Mei Jun’s concubine Xu bought off the fortune teller Zhao to plot against Hu, Mei’s wife. On the way, Hu gave birth to a boy who was seized away by the bandit Golden-eyed Leopard. The loss of the son reduced the mum into a maniac. Later it turned out that the son was brought up by Lin He, Daizhou Magistrate.
17 years later, Lin He was appointed Prefectural Magistrate of the capital. He saw to it that a picture of the Mirror of Fortune should be painted and put up, so as to find the birth mother of his adopted son. Hu, Shouchun, Mei Jun and Xu all came to claim the mirror. In the public hearing presided over by Lin He, the whole thing came to light. Xu and the fortune teller Zhao were punished while Hu and her son got reunited.
The Story of The Jade Bracelet

Yu Ren, a Ming-dynasty rich man, wants his daughter Suqiu to be an imperial concubine. He invalidates her engagement with the poor Zhang Shaolian. Suqiu and her mother ask their maid, Luanying, to give one of the two jade bracelets to Zhang as financial support. Han Chen disguises himself as Zhang and seduces Suqiu. That night, Jiang Hai kills Suqiu’s mother and Luanying and takes away the other bracelet. Zhang is mistakenly jailed, and Suqiu commits suicide in shame and anger. Trying to sell the bracelet, Jiang happens to meet Han’s sister Yujie. He attempts to steal Han's bracelet but is caught by the police. Chen Zhi, the Grand Censor, reviews Zhang’s case. Yujie gives testimony that makes everything clear. She falls in love with Zhang and gets married with him with the aid of Chen.
