For the Love of Cinema: Review of Century's Glory of Chinese Film

Every film tells a story, so does fine watchmaking. They share a common goal: creation of soul-touching works that deliver emotion and inspire dream.

IWC has long been a committed supporter for film industry, and such love may attribute to so many things that IWC and film art have in common: fine watchmaking records the time with precise mechanical structure, and film records the story of time in a subtle way.

A wristwatch, like a film, tells a story too. Its own history, design and process are already attractive, but such attraction is doubled for the story of its owner. It may be a wonderful experience to have the wristwatch, or the precious time the owner spends with the wristwatch. These precious stories are kept deep inside us, just like best memories that a film gives us.

London Film Festival 2014a

IWC has lasting, huge passion for film industry, and is committed to promote film culture by in-depth cooperation with numerous film festivals of international impact, including Beijing International Film Festival, Tribeca Film Festival, Zurich Film Festival, London Film Festival, and Dubai International Film Festival. At the same time, IWC, a pioneer itself, spares no efforts in supporting the young filmmakers to produce more amazing works.

Beijing International Film Festival 2015

As the 7th Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF) grandly kicks off between April 16 and April 23, IWC, an officially designated wristwatch brand by BJIFF for the fifth year running, will also witness glorious footprints of Chinese movies in the past century.

Peter Chan and Zhou Xun will be present at the 2015 "For the Love of Cinema".

With a passion for filmmaking, IWC will host "For the Love of Cinema" on April 19 during the Beijing International Film Festival, to pay tribute to classical Chinese films over the past century. At that time, superstars both in domestic and overseas filmmaking industry will gather together, sharing stories behind the screen and recollecting sweet memories in the history of movie industry.

With the express aim of promoting up-and-coming filmmakers, IWC will also present the well-known IWC Filmmaker Award, to recognize winner's excellent contribution to Chinese filmmaking and unremitting pursuit of film arts while paying its respect to his/her legendary life. The award will be finally announced on April 19.

To celebrate the Beijing International Film Festival, IWC presents the Portofino Hand-Wound Eight Days (Reference: IW510114) as the exclusive gift for the 2016 festival, and makes a limited edition of 50 pieces globally.

With a stainless-steel case measuring just 45 millimetres in diameter, the precious silver dial innovatively sets small, black seconds display at “6 o’clock”, exactly reflecting the simple, pure black-and-white screen in the early stage of film industry. The power reserve display on the dial between “8” and “9 o’clock” gives the dial a pleasing equilibrium.
This special edition with its newly-developed 59210 calibre movement will run precisely and reliably as clearly seen through transparent sapphire-glass back. The pierced emblem and title of BJIFF both in Chinese and English is engraved in the dial, echoing tactfully with gears.

With this elaborate Portofino, IWC conveys its sincere gratitude to all Chinese filmmakers, and praise for the century-old glory of Chinese films.
