In 2017,Chinese movie set many new market records. Chinese original movie became the engine of box office. Chinese filmmakers made more IP constantly, however behind IP's success there is nothing to do without big data and content.

Introduction：
Looking back on the past 2017 Chinese genre film market, we found films such as Wolf Warriors Ⅱ, Never Say Die and The Ex-file：The Return of the Exes not only enjoyed huge box office success, but also made innovations in themes and content. Take Wolf Warriors Ⅱ for example, the movie which set a box office miracle of 5.679 billion yuan met the type characteristics of Hollywood commercial films, and at the same time brought about new methods for the narrative of action films.
Hollywood movies occupy half of Chinese film market as before. And some non-Hollywood films, although not IP, become both a smash hit and a critical success, such as Dangal, Bad Genius and so on. The past 16 years has witnessed the remarkable reform of China’s theater chain system. With the acceleration of urbanization is the dramatic increase of audience size in third and fourth tier cities, creating new subsets of filmgoers. The "one size fits all" model of traditional movie distribution does not fit this changing market. The industry calls for reasonable sub-line, sub-regional distribution and art house chains, as well as opens questions around the balance of multiple party interests.
