The film market boomed during the Spring Festival holiday. Six films were released on Lunar New Year's Day, netting 1.2 billion yuan at the box office in the first day of their release and 5.68 billion yuan in total during the six-day holiday. The outstanding performance shows both groups: filmmakers and consumers (audiences) are expanding rapidly. The rejuvenation of the film market has boosted the confidence of devoted film talents.
The organizer of BJIFF has racked its brains for the specialization and internationalization of young filmmakers, and provided international promotion and overseas training for outstanding projects previously selected in Project Pitches, to make these film "seeds" root and sprout in renowned international film festivals.
BJIFF 2017 Project Pitches selected four projects: Forest of Tumor, The Tower of Terror, No Killing and Cosplay for the screenplay presentation of the "MPA Workshop" run by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), and got a roadshow opportunity. Eventually Cosplay won the "MPA Award" and the project owner won the Special Award from MPAA. The project owner visited Hollywood for learning and exchange in early November 2017 and introduced the project to international production companies. Another project Forest of Tumor won the "MPA Special Award for Asia Pacific Cooperation". In late November 2017, the winner attended the presentation ceremony of Asia Pacific Screen Awards and film exchange activities in Australia, and promoted its project at the Australia China Co-Production Forum. This year, the winners in BJIFF 2018 Project Pitches will go to world-renowned film festivals for overseas promotion. Then Chinese new film forces will shine once again on the international stage.
