The 8th Special Effect Films Exhibition, China Science and Technology Museum plans to conduct an in-depth cooperation with the Organizing Committee of Beijing International Film Festival to undertake the Science & Technology Unit of BJIFF. Taking improvement in the cinema education capability and establishment of the industrial communication platform as the highlights, it will initiate such featured activities as World Sci-fi Movie Exhibition, inaugural ceremony of Sea---Blue Planet, sphere astronomy class, public science popularization activity that cares SOS Children’s Villages. It aims to enlarge the coverage of “screening science popularization movies on campus”, and promote museum-school combination projects. It will set up the expert appraisal mechanism for exhibition films, so as to improve the fineness of awards. At the same time, based on the film exhibition, it will host the 2018 Annual Meeting of Science & Technology Special Effect Theatre Professional Committee, which will focus on the development of science & technology popularization activities and standardized construction of cinemas through inviting foreign museum representatives, so as to enlarge the international vision of cinema science & technology popularization, forge a high-end communication platform, and guide the development of nationwide science & technology popularization cinemas.

　　Our museum is responsible for inviting special effect films, and the Organizing Committee assists in dealing with film introduction procedures. The Organizing Committee invites sci-fi films and deals with introduction procedures. Our museum can provide a shortlist and conduct some directional invitations on some films.

　　II. Science & Technology Popularization Section

　　1. Science Film Fans Parent-Children Salon

　　Form of Activity: Host two Science Film Fans Parent-Children Salons in combination with the films screened, and invite scientists, film commentators, science & technology popularization experts or filmmakers to make scientific interpretation on scientific connotation of the films through salon dialogues and audience interactions.

　　2.Astronomy Class at Dome Theater

　　Host public astronomy classes at Dome Theater, and organize on-site observation and discussion activities at science & technology popularization museums as science class demonstration cases of Dome Theater. The activity will adopt the heuristic science communication approach, featuring such forms as question-raising + starry sky & astronomical demo + on-site interpretation + audience interaction.

　　3.Screening science & technology popularization films on campus

　　We shall collect our museum’s dome films with self-copyrights, and solicit science & technology popularization films and relevant educational packages from film dealers, and carry out panorama activities in signed schools or other middle schools with such needs.

　　(3)Excellent Film Selection Section

　　1. Jury Setting and Generation

　　Public judges: Invite around 200 public judges openly.

　　Public judges: Place a directional invitation to science film-making and propagation personnel. Plan to invite seven experts from the following units: China Science and Technology Museum, Beijing Planetarium, China Science Film and Video Association, China Science Writers’ Association, China Film Archive,  Beijing Film Academy, Guokr, etc. (Detailed personnel are to be determined)

　　2. Selection method

　　On April 5-13, organize public judges to watch the films collectively, and let them give scores to select the shortlisted films, and then directly choose the best recommended films.

　　On April 5-15, organize experts to select the best science publication films and best domestic special effect films via watching disks, on-site viewing, scoring and collective discussion.

　　(4) Demonstration and Exchange Section

　　Activity orientation： Set foot on the feasible demands of special effect films, and build up a communication and transaction platform for museum users and film production & distribution companies through such activities as demonstration and recommendation.

　　Activity content:

　　1. IMAX Cinema 3D Laser Technology Demonstration

　　Demonstrate the new technology development of IMAX Cinema, and display high-light 3D laser screening effects

　　2. Buffet of demonstration and recommendation and awarding ceremony for winning films

　　Allocate booths for domestic and foreign special effect filmmakers and launch concentrated demonstration and recommendation. Cooperate in buffet activities, and host the awarding ceremony for winning films.

　　3. Watching activities of special effect films Conduct concentrated film panorama for insiders. The filmmakers will give introductions before film screening, so as to provide visualized and effective film-selection channels.

　　(5). Section of Professional Committee Annual meeting

　　(1)Conference of Special Effect Theatre Professional Committee at Science & Technology Popularization Hall

　　Activity content: The professional work team is announced to kick off. Director Pang Xiaodong gives a working report which will be discussed and adopted at the conference along with the work plan.

　　(2)Special Effect Film Development Forum

　　Activity content: Choose such widely-concerned topics as cinema construction, screening technology, cinema management, education activities, and conduct theme seminars and dialogue discussions.

　　Sea--Blue Planet is the latest science popularization video released by BBC with a length of about 45 minutes. The Chinese version is dubbed by the well-known dubbing specialist Ji Guanlin. The Asian premiere of the film will be held during the activity. Its filmmakers will give in-depth interpretation on the film and communication with on-site audience. At the same time, we shall share the in-depth education mode of “special effect film + short-term exhibition + science & technology report + educational resource package” with participating representatives.
