After the ceremony began, Dou Xiaodong, Vice President of the Beijing Media Network, delivered a speech on behalf of the BJIFF Organizing Committee. He mentioned in his speech that the Young Screenwriters Training Program is a welfare training program for the young screenwriters in the industry, giving full play to the faculty resources and professional advantages of the Department of Literature, BFA, and providing a valuable opportunity of re-learning and re-education for the front-line screenwriters in the industry. Of great significance and far-reaching influence, it has made efforts for China's film and television industry to reach a new peak and is worthy of recognition.

After that, Yu Jianhong, Vice President of the BFA and President of the YFS, made a speech. In his speech, Yu mentioned that China's film industry has been developing rapidly. In 2018, 81 films garnered a box office of over 100 million yuan, and the target this year is 100. In such an over-all background, films should not only aim at the box office, but also pay attention to high quality, so as to win both the market recognition and the word of mouth. For a movie project, the script is the basis. Therefore, the participants of the program are also shouldering the mission of creating better works. The BFA is the birthplace of the fourth, fifth and sixth generations of filmmakers in China. The education of the BFA is not only centered on formal academic qualifications such as undergraduate and graduate education, but advocates a more three-dimensional training method and attaches great importance to the advanced training courses sponsored by the Continuing Education College and various departments as well, including this Young Screenwriters Training Program. The participants are expected to move on and work hard to create more and better new academic films.

Yu Jianhong, Vice President of the BFA and President of the YFS

Huang Dan, Dean of the Department of Literature, BFA, President of the Screenwriting Education Committee, CFA and President of the CFSI, later added that good scripts are the premise and foundation of good films, and good scripts do not necessarily result in good films, but good films could never be produced without good scripts. Regarding the program, the participants are expected to learn how to create a beautiful new world of film with writing in the precious seven days. He also wished the participants a success and harvest in their studies.

Finally, Yang Mengyuan from the Peking University made a speech as the participant representative of this Program. Her speech was vivid and infectious. She said that as a layman in the film industry, a filmmaker who did not come from a professional college and a "Party B" who could hardly earn much remuneration, she used to worry much about her life until she was selected by this program from nearly 600 screenwriters. For young creators like them, the joy of standing out is not only recognition of them, but also recognition of their scripts, which gives them confidence and courage.

With the warm applause of the participants, the opening ceremony came to a successful end. The participants said one after another that they would take this opportunity to learn and absorb nutrition, and to strive to make the trip worthwhile.

In addition to the excellent courses offered by various professional teachers, this program has also invited the first-line industry insiders to communicate and share with the participants on the spot. The program is really valuable and rich in content. Another highlight is that on the last day of the program, Outstanding Screenplay Road Show Pitches will be held, i.e. the best stories will be selected from the scripts and connected with the market. It is hoped that the good stories will eventually become good movies through the incubation of the CFSI so as to encourage the participants' diligence and offer the society excellent movies.
