Jukka-Pekka Laakso, President of the Tampere Film Festival, Finland, said in his speech that he found many surprises during the review of the BJIFF Short Video Section, which fully demonstrated that a "new branch of Chinese film" was coming into being.
The Short Video Section, a new part of the BJIFF, aims to encourage more outstanding filmmakers to step on the “track” of mainstream international film festivals and transform from “film audience” to active creators, recorders of our better life and the tellers of our Chinese stories. The BJIFF Short Video Section attracted nearly 2,000 works from 45 countries and regions this year. After three rounds of reviews, a total of 70 outstanding works were selected, covering five categories: news, life, knowledge, entertainment and creativity, as well as the Most Socially Influential Work, Most Internationally Communicative Work, Most Valuable Work for the Public Good and the special “Vision Youth Awards”. The "Vision Youth Awards" focus on the works by young students, and more than 300 short videos have been collected from colleges as well as primary and middle schools, which fully demonstrates the unique perspective and care of "Generation Z" for the society and well as China and the world in their cameras.

“China and the World in Shorts” follows the tide of the times and focuses on the most popular and influential short video forms in the era of new media, so as to show the audience the specialization and diversification under the mode of new audio-visual creation and dissemination and consolidate the short video form as an important means of communication. After multiple rounds of reviews, the organizing committee provides recognition and support for the young short video creators through the honor ceremony, hoping to boost the continuous prosperity of the short video industry and build a diverse platform to tell Chinese stories.
