The Samsung Short Mobile Film Section launched by the 11th BJIFF in association with Samsung Galaxy S21 5G aims to use a freer device-mobile phone to change the traditional way of image expression, integrate sci-tech innovation with film art exploration, encourage young filmmakers to conduct freer and more diversified film creation, and allow them to understand and interpret the changes of the times in a new way. This is a challenge to all the 22 shortlisted directors, as well as an opportunity for them to show their creative potential.

The 22 shortlisted works show the extraordinary talent of innovative and imaginative Chinese young filmmakers. In Cao Gai, young director Lan Chengxu used mobile phone lens to demonstrate the mysterious and brilliant cultural symbols of the Tibetan area, creating image of high quality; Wind Chimes by young director Wang Tan renders a wonderful expression with daily life space and through good image management, striking a strong emotional chord; young director Ma Shi's Adili and His Friends from Mars tells about a Xinjiang boy's curiosity about and yearning for outer space, from urban areas to rural areas, from earth to space, from the present to the past and the future, the collision between reality and imagination produces sparks of lively and interesting creations.

Promoting Image Art Innovation through Sci-tech Innovation: Innovative Short Film Competition Draws Industrial Attention
The call for entries for the 11th BJIFF-Samsung Short Mobile Film Section started on May 28. Young filmmakers across the country entered for the competition and the innovative form of mobile shooting drew close attention in the industry. At last, the Organizing Committee selected 22 young directors for final creations. All the shortlisted directors submitted entries on July 15 to be scored and assessed by a review and recommendation group consisting of producer Ye Ning, screenwriter Shu Huan and director Li Weiran, all renowned filmmakers. On September 16, some of the shortlisted works will appear on the official website of the BJIFF and Hivideo.
To respond to the policy of epidemic prevention and control, the 11th BJIFF-Samsung Short Mobile Film Forum will be postponed till September 27, 2021. Then the winners of all the awards in the Samsung Short Mobile Film Section will be unveiled.
The Samsung Short Mobile Film Section aims to explore promising young filmmakers, rediscover the vitality and imagination of image created by Chinese young filmmakers, promote image art innovation through sci-tech innovation, and discover talent in a new shooting way. The winners of all the awards-Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Screenplay, Best Editing and Most Promising Talent will be known on September 27.
