Pitching Projects Shortlisted for Final-round Roadshow and Negotiation at the 12th BJIFF
According to the requirements of the pandemic prevention and control, a quarter of the relevant parties decide to conduct the interviews online (or both online and offline) at the second-round selection of the Project Pitches this year. At the special moment, those filmmakers busy with creation demonstrate the unique power of films. During the critical period when the entire film industry should be more united, the responsibilities that the BJIFF Project Pitches undertake become even more imperative. Since many filmmakers have precious original aspiration and courage, the BJIFF will certainly provide full support for them.
Project Migratory Sounds in the Online Interview
Since the first-round selection, 30 pitching projects and 10 WIP projects have ushered into the fiercely competitive second round. After the jury review, interviews and closed-door meeting, 10 pitching projects and 6 WIP projects are shortlisted for the final-round roadshow to compete for the awards in mid-August.
As the other 10 pitching projects and 4 WIP projects are fairly good and worth demonstration, they will be displayed in the “Online Beijing Film Market” section on BJIFF’s official website to win the opportunity of negotiation with investors.
Before entry into the Project Pitches, all the concerned creators have various roles, such as young students who are receiving professional film education, film historians, film festival founders and mature directors who have rich project experience with works shortlisted for major international film festivals or released in theaters; however, more of them are “newcomers” in the film industry, such as documentary photographers who have followed the anti-drug police for years, creative ad copywriter and architect who once studied in France and creates a family-of-three video team, etc. No matter where the voyage starts or how the journey varies, they will be gathered here in pursuit of film dreams.

Different backgrounds of the creators endow the projects with varied splendid characteristics and highlights as well as diverse themes and perspectives. For creators who have received professional training, their projects feature professional script, audio-visual concept and production capabilities; as for those without professional training, their projects present individual experience based on their backgrounds; the interest and practice in various art forms bring about rich imagination and creativity; while their real life experience lays a solid foundation for various realistic themes.

They join the Project Pitches at the BJIFF with different purposes and expectations—

? “I hope to show this project to everyone and consult with the professionals or audiences so as to make further improvement.”

? “I suffered from a lot of setbacks during the process of turning the script into a film, and I really hope to meet a producer who can help me carry on the whole project forward.”

? “I hope to find investors interested in my project here to jointly promote the project production and operation.”

We sincerely expect all these works can achieve their dreams of “turning stories into films” on the stage of the BJIFF Project Pitches.
