Media House Programme of Films Shortlisted for Tiantan Award is Professionally Upgraded: Filmmakers and Media Join Hands to Make High-Quality Films Visible
At major international film festivals, media reviews and critics for films shortlisted attract most attention. The Jury of the Tiantan Award may give their reviews from the professional level and artistic expression aspects, while the Media House Programme focuses on commercial and mouth-of-word aspects, complementing Jury’s reviews. Before major awards are announced, media reviews are often the subject of much discussion among film fans, and even become the barometer for awards prediction.
To keep shoulder to shoulder with major international film festivals, the Media House Program, first set up at the 11th BJIFF “Tiantan Award”, is fully upgraded this year. At the 12th BJIFF, out of 1450 entries from 89 countries and regions, the films shortlisted for the Competition Section of the “Tiantan Award” will receive reviews and critics by a panel made up of professional media and film critics.
It’s worth mentioning that the upgraded Media House Programme will invite Qi Xi and Song Yang, two young filmmakers, to get deeply involved by sharing their insights on the films from a professional perspective as promoters of the Media House Programme.
Qi Xi, representative works including Mystery, So Long, My Son, Before Next Spring, and Nice View, winner of the Best Newcomer at the 7th Asian Film Awards, Best Newcomer at the 13th Chinese Film Media Awards, and nominee for the Best Supporting Actress at the 36th Hundred Flowers Awards. Song Yang, representative works including The Final Master, Villain and Fireflies in the Sun, nominee for the Best Actor at the 2nd International Film Festival & Awards, Macao (IFFAM), and nominee for the Rising Actor of the Year at the 13th Chinese Young Generation Film Forum. The film Villain he starred in is highly rated by film fans.
The involvement of the two young filmmakers adds a splendid touch to the Media House Programme of films shortlisted for the “Tiantan Award”. Besides, the programme gathers media professionals and film critics from 13 media, including the China Movie News, Yizhan Editorial of the Beijing Daily, The Beijing News, m.1905.com, Sina Film, Phoenix New Media Ltd., World Screen, DeepFocus, Duliyu, Pocket Film, Screen Traveller, Lu Zhiyu and Falanxi Jiaopian. They will score the shortlisted films for the “Tiantan Award” with high specification, quality, standard and level, and express their professional opinions. Thanks to professional support and authoritative platforms, the festival will provide filmmakers, fans and media with more diverse expression channels, so that more excellent films from home and abroad can be seen, more excellent creators' voices can be heard, richer variety of film genres can be explored, and more diversified creating perspectives can be relatable.
The Media House Programme of films shortlisted for the “Tiantan Award” of the 12th BJIFF is fully upgraded, further reflecting the diversity and inclusiveness of the “Tiantan Award” and film art. It’s another self-improvement of the BJIFF based on its previous achievements. It not only strengthens the professional level of the festival, but also conveys to filmmakers, film industry personnel and film fans that the BJIFF is an international and authoritative platform that upholds the charm of film culture and up-to-date practices, and offers a fairer, more reasonable and professional international stage for artistic masterpieces that truly embody the progress of film art in recent years and map the future development trends of the film industry.
