The 12th BJIFF Closed-Door Filmmaker Talks Successfully Held!
On the afternoon of August 15, the 12th BJIFF Closed-Door Filmmaker Talks themed with “Plan for Future Development Together” was held at Beijing Yanqi Lake International Convention & Exhibition Center. The event was organized by the BJIFF Organizing Committee with the participation of the heads of relevant organizations, experts and scholars, and guests from film and television companies.
The event themed with “Plan for Future Development Together” aims to call for joint efforts of the practitioners in the industry to gather the filmmaker, explore the future of film and conduct innovation for film festival, so as to open up a new platform, promote new integration and achieve new growth for the development of whole film industry chain in China.
With firm determination and effective measures to control the COVID-19 pandemic, Chinese film market is now quickly recovering to regain its vitality. More excellent films are urgently needed in the film market to stimulate audience’s enthusiasm. All the filmmakers should join hands to face the difficulties and create more brilliance with high-quality content.
Inclusive and innovative BJIFF provides a new platform for new filmmakers
At the forum, the practitioners in the film industry talked about the form of "digital film festival" in the 5G era. They shared the experience and achievements of the BJIFF by upgrading the event mode, breaking through the dimensional barriers and providing a more diverse platform for the filmmakers in the new era.
The BJIFF this year has attracted more than a thousand foreign films to be shortlisted, so different films and filmmakers can have more possibilities for participation. Meanwhile, it also provides a broader global stage for Chinese films to tell Chinese stories. As the benchmark of the film industry, Online BJIFF–Market will debut in Baidu's "Xirang" Metaverse Space to build the world's first "metaverse film palace" based on the existing official website. The Project Pitches at the BJIFF have been carried out smoothly, and the projects of young filmmakers are gradually taking shape and getting mature. The applications for the Project Pitches Section this year hit a new high. A total of 853 works were selected after three rounds of review, and more than 300 young directors signed up for the "BJIFF TALENTS”. Young directors are planning to produce and introduce 5 short films themed with "Beijing & Future" based on the sci-fi core.
With active innovation and expansion, the film industry seeks new growth opportunities for operation
Other issues such as how Chinese film industry can carry out the layout of whole industry chain, innovate the operation mode and seek new growth opportunities have also been discussed at the forum. They emphasized that the Chinese film market would pay more attention to the cultivation of IP values. The serial production of high-quality content can help film brands to create influential and explosive products. With the upgrade of user’s consumption and the appearance of emerging consumer industries such as live role-playing game and room escape, the film industry now has shifted from the competition of a single film to the competition of multiple forms of content. The fusion of film IP with new consumption and new scenarios will become one of the main directions for the film market exploration in the future.
Based on the core concept of "frankness, professionalism, pragmatism and cohesion", the closed-door talks will continuously improve the influence of the BJIFF through the exchanges of all the practitioners, and make more contributions to the industrial development as the bridge of communication. In the future, the BJIFF will provide a more innovative and inclusive platform as usual for Chinese films with practical actions.
