XR Beijing—“Motion” with the Future for Infinite Possibilities
The 13th Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF) already kicked off, during which the popular VR Section has been upgraded into XR Section—XR Beijing this year, which is located at the No.9 Space at Nanxiaoshun Hutong, Qianmen · Shuxiang Shiye Cultural Theme Block, Dongcheng District, Beijing where numerous visitors had a great experience. Before the release of newsletter, the tickets for five of the films under the section were sold out.
XR Experience
At the Themed Salon on April 21, 2023, Typeman, a representative of VR-based theater, received great acclaim upon screening. This is a multiplayer drama using VR metaverse service "VRChat", in which the action actors perform in real time as Typeman and some players are acting around the Typeman virtually. The interaction through dance and movement, free from any dialogue in VR works, brings a stronger sense of immersion to the audience.

As indicated by the theme of this section—"Motion", in addition to Typeman, the other selected works also indicated the latest achievements of XR. The growth of XR technologies from the dependence on gamepad to the sense of subtle movements, from Motion Picture to Motion Capture gave a shocking experience to the audiences and manifested the extraordinary development of film, television, theater, music, games, and other fields.
Apart from the surprises on technology, these works also have breakthroughs. Some of them lasted for over 30 minutes, which brought the audience great joy of XR in full immersion.
VR Experience of ELELE (gesture capture)
This section is astonished for the bold moves in both technologies and contents. Since the official release of XR Beijing on April 22, 2023, it has attracted a large number of audiences. In just three days after the opening, the tickets for more than half of the works were sold out. An increasing number of any post-viewing comments on social media continues to heat up the XR Beijing.
