The 14th BJIFF's Science and Technology Section Promises an Exciting Lineup of Films that are Set to Captivate Audiences!
  
From April 9 to May 5, 2024, the 14th Beijing International Film Festival Science & Technology Section & CSTM Popular Science Film Panorama, will take place at the Special Effect Theatres, China Science and Technology Museum (CSTM). The current Science and Technology Section embraces the theme of "New Technology, New Frontier", aiming to promote the integration of science and technology with the film industry. By establishing a platform for showcasing cutting-edge special effects film technologies, facilitating resource innovation and collaboration, and fostering industry-wide information sharing, this event paves the way for the development of a new frontier in the realm of special effects cinema.
▌Select Masterpieces Unite in a Grand Celebration
The current Science and Technology Section will feature a remarkable lineup of 33 special effects films from 14 countries, including China, the United Kingdom, the United States, Belgium, Canada, and the Czech Republic. Additionally, 14 films showcasing the spirit of scientists will be presented as part of a public welfare screening. Among the showcased films are 18 Chinese premieres, including Supermoon Adventure, as well as 8 Asian premieres, including Blue Whales: Return of the Giants.

Step into a world of cinematic magic at the CSTM's Special Effect Theatres, where you can indulge in 10 dome screen films, 25 giant screen films, and 12 4D films, all within an immersive environment. The showcased films encompass a diverse range of subjects, including nature, coming-of-age stories, agriculture, and space exploration, catering to the viewing needs of audiences of all ages. During the BJIFF, the Asia premiere of the 4K dome screen film The Real Stars in the Universe and the giant screen film The Mission to Mars, both produced by the CSTM, will take place. The event will provide a unique opportunity for audiences to engage in face-to-face conversations with the films' creators, scientists, and astronauts, delving into the realms of space exploration and the mysteries of the universe.
  
The Mission to Mars
Concurrently, the Masterpiece Selection will be held, inviting professional judges from the film industry, experts from the venues for film panorama, public judges from universities and the community, as well as ordinary audience members, to rate all the showcased films. The awards aim to recognize the best science communication film, best special effect design film, best Chinese film, the film that best embodies the spirit of scientists, and best film recommended by audience.
A selection of outstanding films will also be simultaneously screened in 14 provincial-level science and technology museums' special effects cinemas, including the Shandong Science & Technology Museum, Guangdong Science Center, and Inner Mongolia Science and Technology Museum. This nationwide panorama aims to invite science enthusiasts and film lovers from all regions to immerse themselves in a captivating audiovisual journey where science and art converge. It also serves to promote the integration of resources within the modern science and technology museum system, contributing to the enhancement of the overall scientific and cultural literacy of the general public.

▌Industry Exchange: Envisioning the Future 
During the event, the CSTM will host two major themed salons: "Harnessing the Power of Cinema in Technology" and "Exploring New Paradigms in Science and Cultural Education". Leading experts and scholars from the film industry as well as the science & technology and education communities will be invited to engage in insightful discussions, collectively exploring emerging trends in the integration of technology and film, and fostering innovation in science communication and education.
To further drive the exchange and collaborative development of the special effects film sector, the CSTM will organize an exhibition and networking event for new special effects films and related new technologies. Serving as a space for filmmakers to share, communicate, and exhibit their efforts, this platform will enable industry professionals to discuss the latest advancements and collectively chart the path forward for the growth of the special effects film sector.
The CSTM will facilitate an ongoing series of science education activities, including a family-friendly salon for science enthusiasts and informative dome astronomy classes. These offerings are aimed at providing the public, especially young people, with an enjoyable and educational experience in science. By leveraging the educational potential of the Special Effect Theatres, these activities aim to stimulate a curiosity and fascination with delving into the secrets of technology.
