Yongchuan Technology Studio Leads the Trend of Virtual Shooting Technology, Facilitating the 14th BJIFF!
Yongchuan Technology Studio
Yongchuan Technology Studio was put into operation in May 2023, located in the core area of Yongchuan City. The studio has 5 sound stages with a shooting area of 20,000 square meters and LED virtual shooting technology, providing an LED virtual shooting environment of 42 meters in perimeter, 7 meters high and 800 square meters in area, and supporting multiple mainstream virtual shooting technology processes, which is currently the sound stage with the largest space, the highest brightness and the highest standard in China. The studio features virtual shooting, and sets up Chongqing Film and Television Service Center to create a one-stop film service platform, forming a complete service industry chain, including costumes, props, photography, sound recording, and sound equipment, with full process production capability of digital contents such as game animation, film and television series post-production, special effects rendering, virtual digital human and sound effects, achieving the effect of "coming with scripts and leaving with films". In 2023, the studio has undertaken the shooting of 12 films such as Plan P, Forge, Our Names, and scheduled for more than 10 works such as Resurrection, Life Meeting and The First Frost, with shooting schedule is arranged to the third quarter of this year. To build a film industry base with the largest scale, the highest technological content and the highest efficiency in the western part of China, the studio has started the phase-II construction. After completion, it can meet the virtual shooting needs of 3 medium and large crews at the same time. Yongchuan is striving to build the western technology film city based on the filming site.
Yongchuan Technology Studio
Virtual shooting technology has played an increasingly important role at the BJIFF in recent years. The BJIFF has been committed to promoting the innovation and development of film technology. The introduction of virtual shooting technology has brought new possibilities and creative ways to film production.
At the BJIFF, virtual shooting technology is often used to show the latest film production technology and achievements. Through virtual shooting technology, film production staff can shoot in a virtual environment, saving time and cost while creating more fantastic and amazing visual effects.
At this year’s BJIFF, Yongchuan Technology Studio adopted advanced virtual LED shooting technology to shoot short films in real time, which is a new shooting technology that integrates people, setting and 3D models with the LED screen as the shooting carrier. Compared with green screen shooting, it eliminates post-synthesis, greatly shortens the production time, and improves the overall shooting efficiency.

It uses AI technology to automatically generate scene art concept design drawings and high-precision three-dimensional digital assets, including: outer space, Beijing Yanqi Lake International Conference Center, desert, snow mountain and other scenes, taking only 10 days to complete the whole process from creation to production, and reducing 50% of the production cycle compared with the traditional production process.

The virtual LED shooting site built at the Beijing Yanqi Lake International Conference Center is also independently developed by the technical team Yongchuan Technology Studio, with LED brightness of up to 2700 nits and pixel pitch of up to 1.95mm, the highest currently in China.

In addition, it adopts the MOCO mechanical rocker to shoot, facilitating the difficult shooting of the rotating lens.

In the case of various digital scenes and limited shooting time, the technical team of Yongchuan Technology Studio adopts the self-developed "light field matrix" technology for the first time to shoot, so that the scene and light & shadow on the shooting scene can be switched in real time in one second, which greatly saves the time of field light control. It only takes 20 minutes for each juror to shoot all the shots.

The shooting took 1 hour in one go without post-synthesis, which can be streamed after simple color modulation and editing.
Making-of
Adopting the form of keynote speeches and roundtable, this year’s BJIFF Tech Forum has invited Yongchuan Technology Studio, and pays special attention to new ways of film production enabled by sophisticated digital technologies, such as virtual film shooting and virtual production, and explores in depth how advanced technologies find innovative application pathways and solutions in the film industry, thus promoting the overall progress of film art and technology.
In general, for the BJIFF, virtual shooting technology is not only a way to show the latest technology, but also one of the important means to promote the innovation and development of the film industry. Virtual shooting technology can bring additional highlights and attractions to the BJIFF, and promote the continuous progress and improvement of film technology.
We look forward to exploring more possibilities of film and technology together in further cooperation with Yongchuan Technology Studio, and contributing to the development of film industry!
