Chinese Anime on the Rise: Call for Entries Now Open for the 2nd Exquisite Appreciation Event in the Game-Based Animated Films Section
As time flows swiftly through the interplay of light and shadow, the animated film of the year shines brightly in 2025, the Year of the Snake. Coinciding with the 120th anniversary of Chinese cinema and the 15th anniversary of the Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF), the domestic animated film Ne Zha 2 has topped the global box office charts for animated films! This achievement has brought resounding applause to China's film industry, boosting confidence throughout the industry. On this occasion, the 15th BJIFF Game-Based Animated Films Section extends heartfelt congratulations to the animated film Ne Zha 2 for reaching new heights and securing more honors in film history!
The Exquisite Appreciation Event, which is an integral part of the BJIFF Game-Based Animated Films Section, has been dedicated to promoting co-prosperity and co-creation in film, animation, comics, and games since its inception last year. It promotes cultural confidence, carries on the spirit of Chinese animation, guides the creation concepts of domestic animation, encourages exquisite domestic animation productions, promotes talent training and exchanges, and collaborates to drive innovative industry development. Using animation that combines traditional cultural artistry with cutting-edge technology in the new era as a bridge, the event fully demonstrates the unique charm of the convergence of film, animation, comics, and games, encouraging better integrated industry development.

The Honor Award Ceremony of 14th BJIFF Game-Based Animated Films Section
The industry's vitality comes from its young talent. We look forward to seeing more visionary and creative individuals emerge, such as Director Jiaozi. From March to April 2025, the Game-Based Animated Films Section will hold the second "Colorful World by Your Side" Exquisite Appreciation Event to discover talent in the animation, film, game, and cultural and creation industries, as well as to provide a platform for young animation and comic professionals to communicate and showcase their works. This event will feature a competition for animated short films and comics from colleges and universities.

I. Event Time
Submission Period: March 10 - March 25, 2025
Review Period: March 26 - April 16, 2025
Award Ceremony Date: Saturday, April 19, 2025
II. Event Requirements
1. Animation Works Requirements
(1) Type of Work: Animation
(2) Theme/Subject: No restrictions
(3) Duration: 3-40 minutes
(4) Creation Period: Works must be completed between March 5, 2024, and March 4, 2025.
(5) Video Specifications: A full-length work with clear and coherent visuals. No watermarks. Horizontal screen with a resolution of at least 1080P and a 16:9 aspect ratio. The format is MOV or MP4 (H.264 universal compression encoding).
2. Comic Works Requirements
(1) Type of Work: Comics
(2) Theme/Subject: No restrictions
(3) Format: Single-panel, four-panel, or multi-panel; color or black-and-white. No restrictions on artistic style or creation technique.
(4) Image Specifications: JPG format, 300dpi or higher resolution (complete work, clear visuals, and no watermarks).
(5) Creation Period: Works must be completed between March 5, 2023 and March 4, 2025.
3. Submission Requirements
(1) Work Requirements: The work must be original, with thoughtfulness and artistic value. Please submit digital documents.
(2) Creators: Students currently enrolled in relevant disciplines at domestic higher education institutions (including vocational college students, undergraduates, and postgraduates). Submitted works must be original and created during their period of enrollment. Graduates can also submit works created during their school years that meet the creation period requirements.
(3) Submission Methods: Individuals (or teams) or organized groups from units may apply.
(4) Submission Materials: Each work must include a completed "Submission Form", signed by the applicant. For group submissions, the organizing unit must fill out a "Collective Submission Form", stamped and signed by the unit. Signed submission forms (or stamped and signed collective forms) must be submitted along with other materials. Works should be provided as a cloud storage link within the "Submission Form" or "Collective Submission Form". After completion, send the electronic version of the forms and scanned copies of the stamped/signed forms to the submission email. The email naming format is as follows: For individual/team submissions: "School Name + "Work Title" + Creator Name + Submission Date". For group submissions: "School Name + Contact Name + Submission Date".
(5) Creator Photos: Please submit 1-3 JPG-format photos of the director or creative team.
(6) Work Screenshots: For animation works, please submit 3-5 JPG-format screenshots of key moments from the submitted work.
(7) Work Posters: For animation works, please submit 1-3 posters sized 60cm × 80cm in JPG format.

2. Work Review
The review invites industry and academic experts and scholars with achievements in the field of domestic animation and comics to serve as judges. They will review the works from both academic and commercial perspectives, ensuring that the review maintains a high level of authority in terms of professionalism, artistic attainments, and industrial development. The entire review process is based solely on the quality of the works and follows the principles of openness, fairness, and impartiality to complete the review of all submitted works.
3. Review Results
From all submitted works, the review panel will select 60 shortlisted animation works and 60 shortlisted comic works. All shortlisted works will have the opportunity to participate in a national touring exhibition and will receive a certificate of shortlisting. The list of shortlisted works will be announced in early April on the BJIFF's official website and social media platforms. The final review results will be announced at the Honor Ceremony of the 15th BJIFF Game-Based Animated Films Section on April 19, 2025.
4. Award Ceremony
After the list of shortlisted works is announced, the creators will be notified individually using the contact information they provided during submission. Those whose works are not shortlisted will not be notified individually. Shortlisted creators will be invited to attend the Honor Award Ceremony at the Honor Ceremony. Creators of "Excellent Animation Shorts" and "Excellent Comic Works" will be invited on stage to receive their certificates and trophies. Creators of "Outstanding Animation Shorts" and "Outstanding Comic Works" will be invited on stage to receive their certificates.
IV. Work Screenings
All shortlisted works from the "Animation Works" and "Comic Works" categories will be publicly showcased and played on the Game-Based Animated Films Section of the BJIFF's official website. They will also be showcased and played in subsequent online and offline screenings and related events. Additionally, these works will have the opportunity to be recommended to media, broadcasting and screening platforms, promotional companies, distributors, producers, production companies, project markets, cultural and creative parks, commercial centers, and other partners for future collaboration.
For colleges and universities with group submissions, they can nominate 1-3 animation works and 1-3 comic works from their submissions as outstanding representative works of their respective colleges and universities. These works will be selected for the "Special Recommendation Works/National Colleges and Universities Excellent Works Screening" within this section. These selected works will be screened at various online and offline screenings, college and university events across the country, and other related events within this section.
V. Other Matters
The submitting entity must be the owner/copyright holder of the submitted work and must have obtained legal permissions for all elements used in the work, including sound materials, motion images, special effects assets, texts, character authorizations, etc. If the work involves any infringement issues, the organizer reserves the right to disqualify the submission. Any disputes arising from third-party claims shall be the sole legal responsibility of the submitting entity.
By submitting works to this event, the submitting entity agrees that the organizers, co-organizers, hosts, and related partners of the BJIFF are granted the permanent, global, and free-of-charge right to use the submitted works. This includes the permanent, global, and free-of-charge right to use or authorize a third party to use the relevant submitting entity information (such as the name, logo, etc.), submitted works and their names, trailers or promotional videos, posters, creator photos, screenshots of the works and other content on online and offline platforms for the purpose of publicity and promotion; the use of event content recorded by the submitting entity which includes elements such as the submitting unit, the creator's name, voice, portrait, etc. for showcasing, promoting, and publicizing BJIFF, BJIFF Game-Based Animated Films Section and related submitted works; and the right to produce and edit related videos based on the submitting entity's actual situation, characteristics and needs of the relevant event operations.
Submissions will be disqualified if the submitting entity or their work falls into any of the following situations: The content violates or attacks the political system, the legal system, or similar systems of the People's Republic of China. The content excessively depicts pornography, violence, gore, or similar themes. The content is suspected of plagiarism, imitation, infringement of others' copyrights, or similar matters. Use of AI tools to directly generate animation and comic works, including images, graphics, videos, etc. Violation of other regulations set by BJIFF.
