Warm and healing: Focusing on the glimmering companion between the corporate slave and illness
The film All the Long Nights tells a story of two young office workers troubled by their own hardships - Takatoshi Yamazoe (played by Hokuto Matsumura), who is afflicted with panic disorder, and Misa Fujisawa (played by Mone Kamishiraishi), who suffers from the premenstrual syndrome (PMS). When they meet at work, they gradually become each other's light in life. With classic Japanese style of subtle and restrained cinematic images, the film addresses the issues of modern workplace pressure, women’s health, and understanding and companion among people, which strikes the chord of massive audiences.
Following his masterpieces And Your Bird Can Sing and Small, Slow but Steady, director Sho Miyake once again evokes sympathy from the viewers with the resonant real-life-themed film. And the tacit performance of Hokuto Matsumura and Mone Kamishiraishi adds authenticity and warmth to the film. The film explores the psychological dilemma of corporate slaves. What’s more, it calls on the public to pay attention to easily overlooked physical and mental health issues such as PMS and panic disorder, and encourages audiences to find resonance and strength in every bit of warmth.
Masterpiece of the film festival: Domestic audiences await with great anticipation
As one of the most anticipated Japanese films of the year, All the Long Nights received massive acclaims at the 2024 Berlin International Film Festival’s Forum Section. It was described as a gentle and heart-healing fairy tale for the real world by the German media, which shows the most unadorned and precious kindness among people.
