What are the steps to turn a script into a film?
The Beijing International Film Festival Beijing Market Project Pitching breaks it down into three steps!
The first step: complete a great script.
The script is the cornerstone of any film. A film without a script is like a tree without roots or water without a source. Even Wong Kar-wai dispelled rumors and revealed his script.
The market is not short of scripts. What’s lacking are truly exceptional ones. The script reigns supreme, and genre wins the game.

So what about the second step? Is it all about billion-dollar investments and flashy PowerPoints filled with top celebrities?
No! In recent years, fewer people are seen discussing “film projects” in cafes.
For young filmmakers, the second step may well be the Beijing International Film Festival Beijing Market Project Pitching!
The Beijing Film Festival Project Pitching will continue to bring young filmmakers together this spring. This year, the pitching is divided into four tracks: Script Project Unit, In-Production Project Unit, Sports Project Subunit, and the younger HAF Recommended Project Subunit.

In 2025, the Beijing International Film Festival Project Pitching will continue supporting applications for the Young Filmmakers Special Support Fund. Winning projects will be recommended to the Beijing Publicity Culture and Guidance Fund by the festival’s organizing committee, providing a fast and convenient channel to turn creative ideas into shining films on the big screen.
In 2024, four projects - “Gua Gua’s Adventure”, “Wake Me Up”, “Admission”, and “All is Well”-received the Beijing Publicity Culture and Guidance Fund. With support from the organizing committee, these projects were successfully launched in Beijing, living up to the festival’s slogan: “Bring a story, leave with a film.”
“Wake Me Up” was awarded the Special Recommendation Project by the 14th Project Pitching Jury.
