Volunteers: Elves at BJIFF

The 10th Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF) kicked off on August 22, where a group of elves are busy for their work.

They are the volunteers of the BJIFF this year, capable of handling various affairs such as reception and guidance, meeting preparation, shooting and editing. They represent the youngest demographic at the BJIFF.

As the 10th edition is ongoing, the volunteers, identified by sincerity, earnestness, enthusiasm and unity, play an important role in the event.

  Let’s hear their voice.

Film Panorama Department

「“Doing ordinary things well is to do something out of the common.”」

"I am a volunteer for the Outdoor Screenings Section. Every night I am with different moviegoers here. Many elders told me that the outdoor cinema awakened their memories. I also feel the wonderful emotion between movies and moviegoers."

"I am responsible for commissioning the equipment for the Virtual Reality Film Section, on-site guidance, storyline description, and the disinfection of the equipment and seats after each screening. Our job seems simple, but it is not an easy thing for us to do simple things well. Doing ordinary things well is to do something out of the common."

"I have the privilege to be responsible for the Meet-and-greet with Cast & Crew of The Reunions. When director Dapeng and producer Chen Zhixi talked about the details of the film, their eyes were gleaming with sincerity and hope. I learn a lot from their speech and also feel the charm of filmmaking."

Project Department

「“Now I can find the way in the venue with my eyes closed.”」

"At first, we were not familiar with the venue. During the break, we walked around to familiarize ourselves with different ways. Therefore, before the event starts, we master the locations of the venue, guest lounges, security check, elevators and emergency exits. We can get there quickly even with our eyes closed! In order to ensure the success of the activities and provide considerate services for guests, we are willing to make our best efforts."

“What impressed me most is my responsible work for guiding the guests to press their hands into the mold. This was the first time that I had a close contact with directors. I was very nervous then. But after realizing it was my responsibility, I relaxed myself, smiled, and successfully completed the work. Very humorous, Director Chen Sicheng told me his hand was hard pressed by the Miss Etiquette last time.”

Liaison & Reception Department

「“Be ready to run at any time.”」

"The work of liaison and reception requires carefulness and patience. For example, we should record the schedule of the guest, book hotel rooms and air tickets, order meals and cars, and deliver water and tickets. We must be ready to run at any time."

Human Resources & Property Department

「“We are the back of backup force.”」

"It is great to be able to record how volunteers work. I am deeply moved to see every volunteer appearing in every corner of the BJIFF and running across the venue for work. I took pictures and recorded special moments with my camera, hoping to preserve the best memories for the volunteers."

"We are busy everyday in the venue for various tasks such as sorting seats, putting back signs, distributing supplies, delivering microphones, and wearing headset. We help and remind each other. We are all gifts brought to each other by the BJIFF. As a university student volunteer, I gained a lot this time, which is also a rare and precious experience for me in school."
