“The ancients offered sacrifices to Heaven on the round hillock, while they sacrificed to Earth on the square hillock. The round hillock sits on the southern suburb, circular and high for astronomical observation.” Thus the Temple of Heaven was born.
Starting from the Meridian Gate, the main entrance to the Forbidden City, you can move southward along the central north-south axis of Beijing, and pass through the Tiananmen Square to get to the Temple of Heaven. It sits to the east of the Zhengyangmen Gate and the Yongdingmen Gate, representing an important landmark on the Central Axis of Beijing for its grandness and dignity.
The Temple of Heaven lays claim to all of ancient Chinese architecture. With orderly layout and magnificent decoration as well as the inner part surrounded by the outer part where there are lush green cypresses, it speaks for the simplicity, elegance and grandeur specific to Beijing.
The "Tiantan Award" was launched at the 3rd BJIFF in 2013, inducing the association with the elegant demeanor of the Temple of Heaven. The profound historical and cultural connotations of Beijing are at the heart of the BJIFF, along with grand scale and high level as its key words.
However, behind the grand scale and high level in all its glory there is still a group of interns who work hard with silent contributions. They were not born to be nobody, but dedicate themselves to the cause they are willing to contribute to.
Would you like to join us and use your own capabilities to shine more light on the BJIFF!
