The 50 Must-see Movies at BJIFF Should Be Placed in Your Collection
* Article reprinted from Movie App

The screening schedule for the Beijing Film Panorama of the 11th BJIFF was released at noon yesterday.

In the evening, I, together with Li Xun, Song Xiaojia and Wang Yao, who select films for the BJIFF this year, recommended films for fans for two and a half hours at OWSpace. The day was drizzling, but the house was crowded with moviegoers, conducting free, heated and pleasant discussions.

How are the films selected for the BJIFF? Apart from those familiar classics from masters, how should we recommend excellent but less familiar works to people? And how can fans avoid “dislikes”? -- These questions of people's concern have become the focuses of discussions by which I was most impressed.

I have realized that in addition to voluntary study and mutual recommendations of fans, more recommendation activities should be organized by film selectors in multiple ways. After Mr. Li Xun recommended A School in Cerro Hueso, The Pact, Beyond the Skies and Night of the Kings, I have immediately increased my curiosity about these films, and promoted them to the audience. Turning unknown films into known ones is the most important job of film festival workers, as well as the most honorable thing.

Therefore, in order to better publicize new films of the BJIFF, I have personally made a screening list for the 2021 BJIFF on Douban, and written simple highlights for each film.

Only if the real “trust” is achieved among moviegoers, film selectors and curators, the promotion of new directors and new films can be truly effective. It is a long process, and I hope we will work together in the future.

The “Movie” App has specially selected major works this year as follows, and we hope to gain trust and attention from you. Additionally, two new films have not yet been announced, and will be immediately recommended after they are approved.

I wish all of you can get tickets at 12:00PM on the Maoyan ticketing platform. (Brother Qiai)
