Go on an Adventure Together at Banff Mountain Film Festival
▌Introduction
Skiing and rock climbing, two extreme sports with passion and freedom, not only challenge the physical limits, but also free the mind. In this vast land, every downhill sprint and every ascent are both a self-exploration and the conquest of the unknown. We hereby recommend two movies to let you feel the passion and freedom of skiing and rock climbing.
《Soundscape》
Time: 1:30PM-3:30PM, April 21, 2024;
Genre: Climbing, Visual Impairment, Animation;
Language: English;
Subtitle: Chinese
In the world of extreme sports, every player can interpret their understanding of challenge and passion for life in their own unique way. Special groups are no exception. Sports give them human rights -- the freedom of loving adventures and feeling the world.
Soundscape features Erik Weihenmayer, the first blind person to stand on the summit of Mount Everest. He was fully blind as he ascended a massive alpine rock face deep in the Sierra Nevada. Rock climbing is how Erik explores the world, and through sound, touch and taste, he can experience and conquer one mountain after another.
If your world loses picture and is devoured by the darkness, can you still love life as much as Erik? “When God closes a door for you, he will open a window instead”, Erik explores the world from this window, opening his senses and climbing upwards. You might not have noticed that you can hear the standing rock mountain with your eyes closed, touch the rolling “pulse” of the stonewall with your hands, and smell the scent of different leaves... Therefore, the world around you is lit up and outlined in many shapes, immersive and accessible.
What is blindfolded rock climbing like? Will the world drawn by sound waves be monotonous? Please walk into the cinema and watch Soundscape together with us.
《How Did We Get Here》
Time: 1:30PM-3:30PM, April 21, 2024;
Genre: Skiing, Women;
Language: English;
Subtitle: Chinese
The film How Did We Get Here can be considered as an adventurous poem. The Blondes formed by Emily Childs, Janelle Yip and Tonje Kvivik meet in Norway for their love of cross-country skiing.
Emily Childs is a protagonist of the film. In Norway, cross-country skiing is not only a sport, but also a cultural and spiritual inheritance. A lot of families cultivate their children's love of skiing from an early age to let them learn persistence and courage in the snow. Cross-country skiing is not simply an arena, but also a place for passing on the Nordic spirit of perseverance.
Mountains, forests, falling snow, every turn and every jump are all full of energy and elegant fusion and an extreme test of skills and physical strength. In this pure snow field, you can not only experience the pleasure of speed, but also feel the great nature and vigorous life. This is a battle with yourself, as well as a baptism of your heart.
No matter you are a skiing fan or an adventurous passer-by, you can feel the vastness of life from the snowy mountain. We sincerely invite you to watch the movie How Did We Get Here, traveling thousands of miles for an adventure.
▌Conclusion
Whether on the top of the snowy mountain or between the rock walls, we can feel the love from the bottom of our hearts and the yearning for freedom. Let's walk into the cinema to feel the protagonists’ joy and moving of releasing themselves and pursuing dreams in extreme sports.
