The Chu-Han Contention. Liu Bang is eager to head east and assigns Zhang Liang to find capable talents. Zhang spots Han Xin, a gifted general under Xiang Yu who is not being recognized, and uses a recommendation letter to suggest he join Liu. However, Han, being pretentious, refuses to present the letter. Prime Minister Xiao He knows the value of Han's talents and persistently requests Liu to hire him. Liu, however, ignores him because he remembers how Han once begged for food and experienced disgrace. Upset by this, Han chooses to leave. Once Xiao learns of Han's departure, he rides out of the city, traveling several dozen miles to convince him to return. Eventually, Liu appoints Han as a general.
