The BJIFF · 31st Beijing College Student Film Festival (BCSFF) is a national film festival hosted by Beijing Normal University and organized by the School of Arts and Communication, Beijing Normal University with huge approval of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee (China Film Administration) and Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China. Since its kick-off on April 20, the BCSFF has organized the Opening Ceremony, Screening of Excellent Chinese Films Shortlisted for the “Flashing Youth” Section, “Film+” Forums, Young Filmmakers Forum, Young Film Critics Forum, International Directors’ Workshop, “Original Works Night” Awards Ceremony and Screening, and 2024 International Young Scholars Conference among other exciting events.

The BJIFF · 31st Beijing College Student Film Festival “Youth Night” Awards Ceremony, jointly hosted by Beijing Normal University, CPC Dongcheng District Committee of Beijing Municipality, and Dongcheng District People’s Government of Beijing Municipality, is going live on Beijing Satellite TV and Tencent Video on May 4, marking the successful conclusion of the 31st BCSFF. 

Being a major section of the BCSFF, the “Flashing Youth” Section has been committed to supporting Chinese films insightfully chosen by college students for 31 years. Its selections include many films full of timely relevance and youth spirit. The 34 Chinese films shortlisted for the “Flashing Youth” Section determined by the youth honor selection panel were announced at the BCSFF Opening Ceremony on April 20. Besides, corresponding screenings and meet-and-greets were held at the New United Films Jinbao Palace Cinema and New United Films East Gate Cinema in Dongcheng District, as well as the China Film Archive for 14 days from April 21 on, all of which were warmly received. The selection features various genres and subject matters, and unique perspectives and in-depth thoughts in terms of art creation. Eight highly anticipated youth honors, namely Students’ Choice Award for Best Artistic Experimentation,  Students’ Choice Award for Best Debut Film, Students’ Choice Award for Best Newcomer, Students’ Choice Award for Best Actor, Students’ Choice Award for Best Actress, Students’ Choice Award for Best Director and Students’ Choice Award for Best Film, are to be revealed at the “Youth Night” Awards Ceremony, where numerous filmmakers are celebrating the event with film fans around China, and finding out college students’ choices.

As a cradle for training young filmmaking talents, the BCSFF is devoted to supporting and encouraging young people in filmmaking. Furthermore, selections of college students’ original works are to be unveiled at the “Youth Night”. Specifically, winners of the 24th International College Student Film Selection, 10th Youth Excellent Script Selection and 2024 College Students Film Review Selection will receive honors on stage to show booming creativity and new perspectives of rising filmmakers.

 

Youth remains the same despite changes of era. Since its inception in 1993, the BCSFF has adhered to the philosophy of “Passion, Academic Sense, and Cultural Awareness”, and distinctive features of “Organized by College Students, Enjoyed by College Students, Filmed by College Students, Appraised by College Students” for three decades. The year 2024 marks the beginning of another three decades for the BCSFF. With a focus on youth characteristics, the “Youth Night” Awards Ceremony invites honor panels of college students to present awards to winners. Ushering into the new chapter, the BCSFF continues to join hands with rising young forces and move forward. Filmmakers and scholars are brought together to celebrate the film feast full of youth and passion, and witness cinematic representation of the era.

The ceremony is to be hosted by Nie Yijing, Chen Jing, Li Jinze and Zhou Yi. Guests present include senior artists, such as Huang Huilin, a senior professor at Beijing Normal University, head of the Academy for International Communication of Chinese Culture, and founder of the BCSFF, Tao Yuling, and Niu Ben, young and middle-aged actors and actresses, such as Ni Ping, Zu Feng, Jiang Qinqin, Ning Li, Tian Hairong, Chen Zihan, Wang Xun, Qiao Shan, Wang Zhi, Yuan Shanshan, Jiang Mengjie, Li Xueqin, Zhuang Dafei, Jiang Yiyi and Lv Xingchen, renowned directors and screenwriters, such as Xu Ang, Li Ruijun, Liu Zhihai, Chen Yu, Zhang Ji, Dukar Tserang, and Qiao Liang, as well as “Ambassador for Original Films”, young directors and screenwriters--Shan Dandan and Li Kuo, all of who are to share the development and glory of Chinese cinema in the new era. Performers, including Tang Hanxiao, Huangzi Hongfan, Fu Jing, Jin Chao, Hu Lianxin and Fu Sichao, will deliver wonderful performances and present an audiovisual feast.
