In 2022, the Winter Olympic torch was lit in Beijing, the first “Dual Olympic City" in history. The ancient capital city of thousand years old provided a precious opportunity for the development and dissemination of Chinese sports culture with the passion of two Olympic games. To further promote the sports culture, spread the Olympic spirit and inherit the heritage of the dual Olympics, Beijing International Sports Film Week (BISFW) was included in the BJIFF for the first time. It will bring more vitality and opportunities to the BJIFF which has been successfully held for twelve sessions, and take sports as a bridge to further promote the development of Chinese film and television culture in the world.

This year’s BISFW will last from August 13 to August 19 including various exciting activities: outstanding films and the “Most Popular Film Award” will be released. The theme forums and offline screenings will also be held to discuss the future of Chinese sports films and showcase the high-quality development of Chinese sports culture. “Shine On Dual Olympic City & Together For A Shared Future”, the charm of films and the vitality of sports are collided with each other to display the great excitement!

　　

　　Release of Excellent Works & Launch Ceremony of Joint Exhibitions for Public Welfare · Chinese Sports Films Race for Sport Movies & TV-Milano International FICTS Fest

This year's BISFW has collected a total of 218 sports films, including a number of films themed with Winter Olympics, in an open and directional way so as to widely disseminate winter sports culture, the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and the inheritance of Olympic heritage based on the great success of Winter Olympics this year. After the preliminary and final selection, 18 outstanding films were finally shortlisted for the BISFW and the final result will be announced at the Release of Excellent Works for the 18th Beijing International Sports Film Week & Launch Ceremony of Joint Exhibitions for Public Welfare on August 17. They will race for the global finals at the Sport Movies & TV-Milano International FICTS FEST as the representatives of Chinese outstanding sports films. They will shoulder the responsibility of spreading the Olympic spirit, display the characteristics of the dual Olympic city to the world and expand the international influence of Chinese sports culture.

Some Chinese films such as Water Boys and To The Fore have already achieved good reputation. They not only display the beauty of strength and speed in sports events, but also spread the universal values of bravery and self-transcendence. The audience will get spiritual resonance and nourishment through the film screening at the BISFW, which will also lay a solid mass foundation for the film culture to expand the influence of sports. In addition, some international films such as Going Vertical and Million Dollar Baby are also worth expecting. “The Classics will last forever”. Various salons, forums and exchanges are also attractive at this year's BISFW. The guests from the fields of films, sports and media will carry out in-depth exchanges to provide suggestions for the development of sports films and the building of sports culture, contribute high-quality culture supply for the BISFW this year. 

A salon themed with "Why Sports Films Are Going Viral?" will be held on August 15 and the guests will focus on several well-commented sports films such as Invisible Summit and Body Contact to conduct an in-depth discussion with the audience on the feelings and expectations for sports-themed films, try to provide filmmakers with experience and inspiration for future creation. On August 17, the theme forum themed with Missions to Sports Films for “A Great Power of Sports” will be held. The guests will interpret the mission of sports films from different perspectives, and provide multiple interpretations on the missions to sports films to tell Chinese stories and promote the establishment of “a great power of sports".

　　Deep integration of BISFW and Project Pitches · Special-Purpose Support Fund Enhances Sports Films

At the BJIFF Project Pitches this year, the number of film registration has reached a record high with more in-depth cross-border integration with various fields. The BISFW also joins hands with the BJIFF Project Pitches for the first time with the establishment of Special-Purpose Support Fund for Sports Projects to support outstanding young filmmakers, encourage the creation of sports films, excavate and cultivate the new force of sports films in the subdivision field.

A total of 15 to 20 films from the BJIFF Project Pitches are shortlisted, including Manchurian Tigers, The Circus, Fight Of A Caged Beast, Tough Mother, Ready? Go! The Man on Horseback, Perfect Team, Scorching Sun, Overaged Team, Blood and Bones, Sincere Chinese Heart, Prince on Ice, Boys in Dawang Town, Hero, Locomotive Father and Son. After the preliminary and final reviews, the judges of the BJIFF Project Pitches will announce the award winners. Meanwhile, the BISFW will also "escort" the script implementation and funding of the winning films. After being completed, the projects can continue to participate in the screening and collection at the BISFW to form an circulation inside the BISFW as a new force of the sports film industry.
