12 “Journey to Film Settings” Routes of the 15th BJIFF Officially Launched!
To celebrate the 15th Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF), the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism has launched 12 unique routes themed “Journey to Film Settings”, aiming to maximize the unique appeal of film culture and promote cultural-tourism synergy. Designed to uncover Beijing's wealth of film culture and diverse attractions, these routes aim to provide citizens, visitors, and film enthusiasts with an engaging journey that combines cultural depth with leisure and entertainment. Participants will seek the cinematic imprints in real-world settings and immerse themselves in Beijing's unique charm.  
Route 1: Qianmen-Dashilar - A Journey to Discover the Origins of Chinese Cinema
Covering a distance of around 6 kilometers, this route is best enjoyed on foot or by bike.
Begin your journey at the charming Qianmen Street, filled with the essence of old Beijing. Here, the Forbidden City Cultural and Creative Store and the “Beijing Gifts” store provide excellent opportunities to purchase distinctive souvenirs and witness the fusion of traditional culture and modern design. Afterward, visit Madame Tussauds for an extraordinary experience with movie “celebrities”. The Zhengyangmen Archery Tower, a filming location for the film Hidden Man, stands majestically, holding the memories of the film and the weight of history. A walk along the Sanlihe River at Qianmen immerses you in the nostalgia of old Beijing's southern stories, letting you savor the tranquil beauty of its waterways. Arriving at Poly International Cinema (Beijingfang), a legendary site that witnessed the screening of China's first film, The Battle of Dingjunshan, you can trace the origins of Chinese cinema. Daguanlou Cinema also showcases the timeless appeal of a vintage theater, preserving the dreams and sentiments of numerous filmmakers. Walking along the Yangmeizhuxiejie Street, one can witness the fusion of historic hutong culture with a modern artistic flair, offering a chance to savor the rich layers of history. As one of China's first film production establishments, the former site of Feng Tai Photo Studio stands as an important testament to the development of Chinese cinema. Conclude your visit to the Capital Cinema (Xidan) in Joy City, where a variety of exceptional films from around the world will be screened during the BJIFF, providing an impressive sensory experience.
Route2: “Film Capital” Huairou - A Journey Through the Aesthetics of Life with Film as a Medium
Set off on an artistic journey brimming with aesthetic charm, all conveyed through the art of film.
Start your journey at the internet-worthy cafe, Sanqian Garden, where French pastoral charm meets cinematic elements. Enjoy fragrant coffee and immerse yourself in a romantic atmosphere. The Waterfront Art District is a dream destination for art aficionados, presenting a rich array of art exhibits and bustling markets that highlight the allure of aesthetic living. The characteristic guesthouses beautifully blend ink wash poetry, oiled paper umbrella art, and natural craftsmanship to offer you a distinctive lodging experience. As night falls, head to the Yanyue Terrace to join the “Moonlit Aesthetic Gathering”, where you can enjoy a dialogue between art and the soul amid the interplay of moonlight and shadows.
Route3: “Film Capital” Huairou - Cultural Tour of Movie Shooting Locations
This route will take you on a journey through time, showcasing the beautiful blend of history and modernity. Wellbour Garden Homestay welcomes visitors from near and far as a sub-venue of the BJIFF, offering its unique style and warm service. Meanwhile, the Mutianyu Great Wall, featured in several renowned films such as If You Are the One 2 and Mozart from Space, provides an awe-inspiring view that allows you to imagine classic cinematic moments coming to life before your eyes. At the production base of Bona Film Group, a cultural park in Huairou, you will find an excellent venue for watching films and unwinding, where you can appreciate movies in a cozy environment and enjoy a rich coffee as you soak in the leisurely moments. Whether you are a history and culture enthusiast, a passionate movie lover, or an explorer of cultural experiences, this route offers something unique and delightful for everyone.
Route 4: Langyuan Station - A Movie Activity Tour
The total distance is estimated at 18 kilometers, so cycling or taking a car is a great alternative.
Along the railway tracks by Jiangfu Park, large stretches of February orchids bloom every spring, creating a romantic sea of purple flowers, perfect for taking photos to capture memories. Langyuan Station, as the main venue for BJIFF events and the location of the film cultural and creative market, is rich in cinematic atmosphere. Here, you can participate in various exciting BJIFF activities, shop for unique film-inspired products, and experience the close connection between cinema and life. This year, enjoy a spring outing along the internet-famous Bahe River, where the refreshing natural beauty and relaxed atmosphere will uplift your spirits. As one of the filming locations for Hidden Man, Ritan Park encapsulates the film's memories and historical elements. Finally, make your way to the Weibo IN Diamond Center at Chaoyang Park, a lively venue showcasing modern technology and entertainment. Here, you can relish the energy and passion of e-sports and enjoy the harmonious combination of cutting-edge tech and entertainment.
Route 5: Donglang Industrial Park - A Journey into the Film Industry
The entire route spans approximately 3 kilometers, making it suitable for a walking tour.
The Donglang Film Creative Industry Park is home to a vibrant array of film investment companies and live-streaming studios, reflecting the dynamic innovation within the film industry. Visitors can dive into the operational mechanisms and development trends of the film sector, attend the BJIFF's “Producers Forum”, and engage with industry insiders to uncover the secrets of film production and investment. Experience a unique stay at the industrial-style LOFT-themed hotel, where you can unwind in an artistic environment. Visit the cafe at Langyuan Vintage to taste mint-themed coffee and relish a relaxing afternoon. At night, indulge in gourmet dishes at the film-themed restaurant, where the blend of film culture and exquisite cuisine promises a delightful dining experience. 
 
Route 6: Beijing Central Axis - A Journey Through Classic Films
The entire route is approximately 14 kilometers long, and cycling or walking is recommended.
Begin your journey from Yongdingmen at the southern end of the Beijing Central Axis, a site that featured in Iron Man 3and has stood as a testament to history's changes. As you stroll through Tiantan Park and admire the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, take a moment to ponder the profound meaning of the Tiantan Award, bestowed at the BJIFF. The Beijing Working People's Cultural Palace (Taimiao), a filming location for the film Big Shot's Funeral, showcases architectural styles closely associated with the Hall of Supreme Harmony in the Forbidden City, highlighting the grandeur of ancient imperial architecture. Booking a ticket to the Forbidden City allows you to enter this grand palace, giving you the sensation of stepping back in time to experience the majesty of royalty and historical depth. In April, Jingshan Park bursts into color, particularly with the peonies in bloom, creating a stunning visual feast. Climb to the top of the central axis at Wanchun Pavilion for an extraordinary view of the majestic layout, capturing the distinctive essence of the city of Beijing. While at the Bell and Drum Towers, you'll learn about ancient urban management through the morning and evening bell sounds, experiencing a rich historical ambiance. Remember to buy a souvenir at the “Beijing Gifts” store related to the central axis as a delightful reminder of your visit. Peking Opera lovers should not overlook the Mei Lanfang Memorial Hall, where you can uncover the artistic journey of this legendary performer. Wander through Shichahai and the adjacent hutongs to immerse yourself in the lively day-to-day life of local Beijingers.
Route 7: Beijing WTown - Scenic Explorations at the Base of the Great Wall
In the resort area, you can opt for a walking tour, allowing you to savor the beauty of each scenic spot at a relaxed pace.
The Beijing WTown International Tourist Leisure Resort, known for its role in Hidden Man, is brimming with unique charm. Head to Cloud Cafe (Beijing WTown), grab a coffee, and sit by the window to soak in the beauty of the water town, letting yourself unwind in the comfortable atmosphere. Tourists have the opportunity to join the “Movie Ticket Stub Exchange for Attraction Tickets” event for extra perks. Staying at the Beijing WTown Hotspring Resort or a boutique guesthouse allows you to soak in hot springs under the peaceful night sky, experiencing the romance and tranquility of the water town. As night falls, head up to the Simatai Great Wall for an awe-inspiring view of the illuminated landscape, embarking on an immersive “Film + Night Tour” experience that makes you feel like a part of a film setting. 
Route 8: Universal Studios X Grand Canal - A Celebration of Film Consumption
We recommend taking the subway along with walking and boating as your transportation choices to start this lively adventure that weaves together contemporary and historical experiences.
Discover a world of immersive fun at Universal Beijing Resort, with attractions like the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and Transformers Metrobase. Enjoy the magic by casting spells in the Wizarding World, or interact with Optimus Prime at the Transformers Metrobase to capture the excitement of technology. Watch the latest global releases in the IMAX theater at Universal CityWalk Beijing for an outstanding audio-visual experience. Afterward, transition to the Beijing Grand Canal Cultural Scenic Area, home to the filming location of Canal Dock, which illustrates the vibrancy of ancient grain transport. As you stroll along the historic docks, you'll feel as though you've stepped back in time. The Grand Canal Museum of Beijing, Beijing Library, and Beijing Performing Arts Centre are three major cultural facilities that play a vital role in understanding canal culture and experiencing the charm of art. Explore the roots of canal culture at the Grand Canal Museum of Beijing, trace the connections of culture at the Beijing Library, and appreciate the blend of art and film history at the Beijing Performing Arts Centre, allowing you to navigate through a rich cultural landscape.  
Route 9: Film Museum - A Journey Through the Integration of Film and Technology
The journey covers a distance of around 15 kilometers.
Immerse yourself in a century of film history and discover the profound cultural roots of cinema at the IMAX theater of the China National Film Museum. Inside the museum, a wealth of exhibits and thorough documentation illustrate the remarkable history of film development. Discover the 798 Art Zone, where And the Spring Comes was filmed, and visit various shooting studios and independent filmmakers' workshops to experience the energetic collision of art and cinema. At IOMA, an art center, discover the Vanguard Video Exhibition that showcases the creative blend of contemporary art and cinema. Enjoy a stay at the distinctive Read and Rest Hotel, join the midnight film salon, and connect with film lovers from various regions, surrounded by a lively cultural environment.
Route 10: East of the Forbidden City - Urban Romantic Love Tour
The entire route is approximately 10 kilometers long and is best explored by biking or walking.
Beginning at Dongdan, this site, known for its romantic charm, is a filming location for Finding Mr. Right. A walk along Dongsi (Longfu Temple) reveals the revamped Longfu Temple, a hallmark of urban renewal that harmoniously fuses fashion and art, featuring an array of trendy boutiques and captivating art exhibitions. Upon reaching Guijie Street, west of Dongzhimen, you will find this street featured in multiple romance films, such as Love Is Not Blind and Beijing Love Story. At night, Guijie Street is illuminated and filled with mouthwatering scents, offering a diverse selection of specialty foods that embody the enchanting blend of love and gastronomy. Enjoy a night cruise with international flavor on the Liangma River, where you can marvel at the brilliant lights and embrace the romantic mood. Make your way to the Maple Garden Drive-in Cinema for an unforgettable way to watch films, enjoying the pleasure of cinema from inside your car. SOLANA Lifestyle Shopping Park is a paradise for fashion shopping, where you can indulge in retail therapy and relaxation. Finally, visit POP LAND Beijing to select your favorite trendy toys and collectibles, adding a touch of whimsy to your romantic journey.
Route 11: Mentougou - Ancient Temples and Villages Light Show Tour
The total distance is approximately 60 kilometers, and self-driving is highly recommended.
As a Zen filming site for If You Are the One 2, Tanzhe Temple boasts a millennium-old ginkgo tree and the mystical “Stone Fish”. You can recreate classic film moments beneath the ancient ginkgo, touch the “Stone Fish” for blessings, and join in incense activities. Additionally, enjoy a cup of Mingqian (literally “pre-Qingming”) tea in the tea house, soaking in the tranquility and peace of this historic temple. Dingdu Peak offers an excellent vantage point for capturing time-lapse shots of Beijing's skyline, allowing tourists to take in the city's magnificent views and witness its development and transformation. Meanwhile, Cuandixia Village, a filming location for The Warlords, is home to numerous well-preserved buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties. Stay in the siheyuan featured in the film Cell Phone and experience the tranquil nights of the ancient village. Ascend to the Viewing Platform of Jinchan Mountain for a panoramic view of the village's fan-shaped layout, visit historical sites like the Landlord's Courtyard and the Guandi Temple, and admire the “爨 (cuan)” character totem carved into the stone walls, immersing yourself in the rich historical and cultural heritage of the village.
Route 12: Mentougou – A Journey Through the Epic History
This journey stretches for around 80 kilometers, perfect for a leisurely self-driving tour.
Nestled in the Nanshiyang Grand Canyon, a breathtaking ecological filming location for Wolf Totem, tourists can find the perfect backdrop for ecological documentaries. In Tianzhuang Village, participants can immerse themselves in the “revolutionary murder mystery game” called Wars of Western Beijing, stepping into the shoes of underground Party members to unravel codes and experience the vivid excitement of revolutionary history. To further honor this heritage, the Anti-Japanese War Canteen offers a “Bitter and Sweet Meal”, featuring corn muffins and pickled vegetables, reminiscent of the hardships faced by earlier revolutionary figures. The Longmen Gully, a filming location for the film Detective Chinatown 1900, allows tourists to reflect on the historical imagery of Chinese individuals building railways, inspiring confidence in the realization of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. In Liuliqu Village, home to an intangible cultural heritage workshop featured in National Treasure, tourists can experience crafting the same type of glaze as seen in National Treasure. They can also explore the remains of a Yuan Dynasty glazed kiln and touch the same “peacock blue” glaze showcased in the Forbidden City. At the village's “Glaze Museum”, guests can seek out the prototype of the “Glazed Beast” featured in Story of Yanxi Palace, immersing themselves in the unique charm of intangible cultural heritage.
As part of the 15th BJIFF, the host has introduced the “Journey to Film Settings” section, featuring 12 themed travel routes that weave together various consumption experiences through film culture, providing an immersive and holistic cinematic living experience for citizens and tourists.
