The global film solicitation for the AIGC Unit of the 15th Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF) is coming to an end, and this year's AIGC Unit competition is highly anticipated. Over the past year, we have witnessed the rapid development of AI technology as well as the tremendous energy generated by the integration of technology and art. We also hope that AI can contribute to China's cultural output, broaden the boundaries of film and television creation, and initiate a new chapter for future films!
  
Final Jury for the 15th BJIFF AIGC Unit 
The jury of this year's AIGC Unit boasts a strong lineup, and the Jury President is the famous Chinese director Guan Hu. This is Guan Hu's first time serving as a jury for the AIGC Unit of a domestic film festival. It is also a profound practice of his creation philosophy of “technology as the blade and humanity as the soul”. The AIGC Unit has also received support and assistance from several prestigious juries, including Rob Minkoff, the director of The Lion King, as well as Tan Zhuo, Wang Lei and Chen Jianying!

Guan Hu, the Jury President of the 15th BJIFF AIGC Unit 
Guan Hu, a famous film director and screenwriter, is one of the pioneering representatives of the sixth generation of Chinese film directors. Graduating from the Department of Directing of Beijing Film Academy, he is praised as China's most assertive film director by both Chinese and foreign film critics.
In 2009, his black comedy movie Cow won the Golden Horse Awards for Best Adapted Screenplay and was shortlisted for the Orizzonti of Venice International Film Festival; In the same year, the TV Drama Yimeng he directed won the Outstanding Director Award of the China TV Drama Flying Apsaras Award; In 2015, the highly influential film Mr. Six made 1 billion yuan at the box office. It won the Best Director and Best Film of the Year awarded by China Film Director's Guild, and was screened at the closing ceremony of Venice International Film Festival. In 2019, the tribute film My People, My Country became the annual box office champion with box office revenue of 3 billion yuan, setting a new record for tribute films. The 2020 war epic film The Eight Hundred topped the global annual box office and won the Best Director and Best Feature Film Awards at Macau International Movie Festival. In the same year The Sacrifice won the Best Screenplay Award at Macau International Movie Festival; In 2024, Black Dog swept the Best Film in the Un Certain Regard and the Palm Dog Award at Cannes Film Festival. It also received more than a dozen international honors, including a nomination for Best Director at Gotham Awards. In the same year, the heartwarming work A Man and A Woman won Best Cinematography at Shanghai International Film Festival.
  
Rob Minkoff, Jury member of the 15th BJIFF AIGC Unit 
Rob Minkoff is an American filmmaker, best known for his co-directing Disney's Academy Award-winning films The Lion King, The Littles, The Littles Season 2, The Haunted Mansion, The Forbidden Kingdom, and Mr. Peabody and Sherman. Born in Palo Alto, California, Minkoff studied animation at the California Institute of the Arts, where he studied under legendary animator Chuck Jones and Disney's Eric Larson. His career began with Disney's The Black Cauldron. Later, he also participated in the production of films such as The Great Mouse Detective, Oliver & Company, The Little Mermaid, and directed two of the Roger Rabbit shorts. After that, he made his debut as a director of the animated feature film The Lion King. He made the transition to live-action with Stuart Little and continued to blend live-action and animation in various projects.   
  
Tan Zhuo, Jury member of the 15th BJIFF AIGC Unit 
Tan Zhuo, an actress and artist, is a unique representative figure in China's arts and cultural sector. She presents herself with two distinctive identities: actress and artist. Representative works in film and television: Dying to Survive, The Bravest, Sheep Without a Shepherd, Story of Yanxi Palace, The Long Night, Enemy, etc.
Tan Zhuo's performances have consistently received critical acclaim, box office success, and high viewership ratings. She is one of the rare versatile performers who excels across cinema, television, and theater. She is known for her remarkable ability to shape different characters. Whether it is in suspense stories, comedies, or when portraying young girls or mothers, she always impresses the audience deeply with her profound understanding and excellent acting skills.
Beyond acting, her artistic endeavors span installation art, visual media, and interdisciplinary creations, reflecting profound explorations of contemporary society, technology, and human nature. With her keen sensibility and insights, she has broken through the traditional distinction between art and performing arts, enabling a dialogue between the public and art, and has received widespread attention from all walks of life.
  
Wang Lei, Jury member of the 15th BJIFF AIGC Unit 
Wang Lei is the dean, professor, and doctoral supervisor of the School of Animation and Digital Arts of Communication University of China. He serves as the deputy secretary general of the Digital Art Committee of the China Artists Association, and deputy director of the Digital Art and Animation Committee of the Chinese Collegial Association for Visual Art. He is also an animation director, animation screenwriter, and digital artist.
His works have been shortlisted and awarded at 127 film and animation festivals across 35 countries, including 11 National Radio and Television Administration (NRTA) Outstanding Domestic Animation Awards, and nominations or awards at over 20 Academy Awards qualifying film festivals. He worked as a writer and director for the web-based animated series The Mirage House in the Clouds, which was nominated for Best Animation of the 2024 Magnolia Awards. His TV animated series Kim & Jim's Wormhole, written and directed by him, was awarded as the Outstanding Domestic Animation by the NRTA in 2023. Another TV animated series Wool Wool Town, also written and directed by him, won the Best Animated Work of the China Culture and Art Government Award in 2022 - the highest honor in Chinese animation. His representative digital art works include large-scale new media immersive exhibitions such as Cats of the East (2023), The Legend of Qin: Dream Back to Xianyang (2024), and Dragon Gate (2023), the first AIGC ink-wash animated short film. He has also received titles such as Outstanding Animation Screenwriter and Director from the NRTA, Leading Talent in National Radio and Television and Online Audiovisual Industry, Renowned Young Educator in Beijing Municipality, and High-Level Talent under the “Four Batches” program in Beijing Municipality.
  
Story Chen, Jury member of the 15th BJIFF AIGC Unit 
Story Chen is a young director, screenwriter, producer, and winner of the Short Film Golden Palm at the 75th Cannes Film Festival.
The Water Murmurs, a short film she directed, won the Golden Palm at Cannes in 2022. Her directorial and lead acting work Hi! Farewell premiered in the NEWHER Women-Focused Film Section of the 14th BJIFF. Other short films such as A Woman's Gaze and Marina were shortlisted for international festivals including the Norwegian International Film Festival, Hollywood International Film Festival, and Washington DC International Film Festival, garnering multiple international awards.
Her feature film A Story Untold (now renamed as Frozen River) was selected into the education program of the 5th HAF Film Lab in 2022, and won the “Alibaba Pictures Special Focus Program” Award at the 25th Shanghai International Film Festival Project Pitches.
First-round Jury Lineup:
This year's first-round jury consists of experts from related fields of AI film and television, renowned AI creative artists, and distinguished scholars from specialized academies.The jury's evaluations will be conducted from multiple perspectives, including AI technology application, thematic expression, artistic impact, and audiovisual storytelling.

The 2024 AIGC Unit of the BJIFF made a strong impact both domestically and internationally.In 2025, the AIGC Unit will continue its rigorous and scientific approach, establishing an AI film competition that is professional, forward-looking, authoritative, and of guiding value to the development of the film industry. Harnessing the power of AI, it aims to jointly promote innovation and transformation of the film industry.
The main activities of the 15th BJIFF AIGC Unit will take place from April 23 to April 25, featuring the Opening Ceremony, forums, academic showcases, Honor Gala, screenings of outstanding works, and Project Pitches. A detailed schedule will be announced soon - stay tuned!
