The 13th BJIFF, in collaboration with Samsung Galaxy S23, launched the Samsung Mobile Short Film Unit, encouraging young directors to use portable devices like mobile phones to present highly innovative short films with the support of advanced technologies via the platforms like the BJIFF.

Young directors under the unit are encouraged to capture the changes in light and shade from imaginations with Galaxy S23. The eight finalists all frame their wonderful imaginations in the creation, and explore aesthetics from the images with mobile phones, which perfectly echo the theme of “Splendor to Be Discovered”. 

All the eight finalists used Samsung Galaxy S23 for their creation and were amazed by the superb imaging performance and the extreme photographic quality of the phone on the set. Director Nadia Guo exclaimed, "I thought the night-shooting only belonged to professional cameras, as I never thought mobile phones could do it too." Directors Yang Zizheng and Liu Xiaoli gave great recognition to the portability of mobile phones for shooting. Yang Zizheng believed that mobile phone shooting could capture moments of poetry from the long-time daily life, while Liu Xiaoli exclaimed, “The phone is efficient and lightweight, showing great innovation and creativity.” Director Miao, who understands our heart through the lens and believes that even a small phone may lead us into a huge world. 

The film industry is eager for fresh flood, namely the boldness of young filmmakers. Director Ma Guyuan said, "We hold this egg, and try to hatch it out despite all the bad weathers!"

While praising the Samsung Galaxy S23, director Sun Jie also emphasized that "it's more important to record what you really want to express". 

Technology leads to innovation, while films integrate colorful imagination. The eight films for the 13th BJIFF Samsung Mobile Short Film Unit are under final production. The Organizing Committee will invite three veteran filmmakers as juries to judge the creations.
