In 2024, NEWHER was born, as we aspire to guide women to bloom with the experience of us as an industry pioneer.

The NEWHER Workshop & Masterclass featured six distinguished women in the film industry who came together to engage in insightful conversations about their creative journeys. Alongside exploring works from a female perspective, they also interacted and exchanged ideas with young female directors and the audience, presenting an immersive experience of knowledge and art and inspiring and guiding the artistic endeavors of aspiring filmmakers.

From March 16 to 17, 2024, the NWEHER Workshop & Masterclass, part of the Women-Focused Film Section of the 14th Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF), was successfully held at Beijing Film Academy. Renowned film and television creators, including Li Shaohong, Rao Xueman, Deng Lu, Ye Wanting, Fu Shu, and Zhao Nan, were invited to share their wealth of knowledge and expertise at the Workshop & Masterclass. Spanning across two days, the Workshop & Masterclass featured six sessions, each focusing on one of the six major disciplines: directing, editing, color grading, sound recording, cinematography, and screenwriting. Apart from young directors and teams participating in the NEWHER Workshop, the event also reached out to students majoring in relevant fields from a number of colleges and universities, such as Beijing Film Academy, Central Academy of Drama, Communication University of China, Renmin University of China, Minzu University of China, Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing Foreign Studies University, Capital Normal University, and National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts.

At various sessions, whether it was the young directors from the NEWHER Workshop or the students, they all immersed themselves in the fertile soil of knowledge and experience, extracting nutrients and accumulating the momentum to propel themselves forward. It is hoped that through the guidance of mentors, young directors will be able to discover new and better versions of themselves, and uncover the essence of NEWHER, enriching the world with more remarkable "her".

In the coming days, we will progressively release video recordings of each mentor's course in detail, with the aspiration of extending support to a broader community of film enthusiasts who identify as female.
