The 16th BJIFF Shorts Selection Revealed
Cinema is a medium of perception that transcends languages and borders.
The BJIFF Shorts of the 16th Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF) brings together exceptional short films from numerous countries and regions worldwide, fostering a dialogue between multicultural perspectives and contemporary realities. The selected films encompass diverse creative backgrounds and expressive paths—ranging from individual experiences to societal cross-sections, and from the nuances of daily life to the precipice of extreme situations—presenting the multifaceted nature of our world today.
This year's BJIFF Shorts is presented through two major thematic categories, offering cinematic observations and responses across different dimensions. These works invite the audience to transcend the limitation of time and reach a broader realm of reality and emotion.
The Honors Category (for Chinese-language films) features 16 works, categorized into three programs: "Destiny and Echoes", "Beyond the Everyday", and "The Distant Unreached". This category features five prestigious honors: Best Short Film, Best Narrative Breakthrough, Best Emerging Director, Most Commercial Value, and Jury Special Mention. Additionally, a special Audience Choice Honor will be determined by audience vote.
The International Screening Category (for non-Chinese films) features 13 works, divided into two programs: "Cracks in the Everyday" and "Moments of Life".
The official lineups for these two categories are now released (see below). We invite you to witness the future through the lens of short films.
