Film, the seventh art, is undoubtedly a cross-border language of art and an important medium for exchanges among various cultures. The Jury for the Tiantan Award of the 14th Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF) is gradually unveiled. Kris Phillips, a Chinese American actor and singer, will take a part in the Jury of Tiantan Award, which adds appeal to this world-renowned event.

As a popular singer since 1980s, Kris Phillips has impressed generations of the Chinese people with universal praise. He is also listed among the "first generation of top stars" in the entertainment circle of China.

In 2012, he starred in the film Painted Skin: The Resurrection, which grossed 700 million yuan at the box office, the highest record among all the participants in summer holiday of the same year. 11 years later, after a long absence, he returned to us with another masterpiece where he starred Creation of the Gods I: Kingdom of Storms. 

His portrayal of King Zhou of Shang in the film led to massive discussions online. His unique performance of English with his own style became a phenomenon in 2023, bringing him great fame. His marvelous professionalism and personal charisma impressed all the audience.

Of great commercial value, the film was nominated for six and won the Best Feature Film at the 36th Golden Rooster Awards. To play well the role, Kris accepted professional training for a year and a half at his 60, practicing martial arts and shaping his body to make the character more vivid. This is definitely a great masterpiece of Kris after years of absence from fans.

Kris said in the interview that "Chinese mythology has a unique charm that we need to pass on from generation to generation."

He also has a deep affection for Chinese culture. In an interview, he said that he once visited the Temple of Heaven at night just to appreciate its grandness and elegance. Holding such a passion, it is believed that Kris will live up to our expectations as the Jury member of Tiantan Award.
